ABOUT CARTESIA
Our mission is to build the next generation of AI: ubiquitous, interactive intelligence that runs wherever you are. Today, not even the best models can continuously process and reason over a year-long stream of audio, video and text—1B text tokens, 10B audio tokens and 1T video tokens—let alone do this on-device.
We're pioneering the model architectures that will make this possible. Our founding team met as PhDs at the Stanford AI Lab, where we invented State Space Models or SSMs, a new primitive for training efficient, large-scale foundation models. Our team combines deep expertise in model innovation and systems engineering paired with a design-minded product engineering team to build and ship cutting edge models and experiences.
We're funded by leading investors at Index Ventures and Lightspeed Venture Partners, along with Factory, Conviction, A Star, General Catalyst, SV Angel, Databricks and others. We're fortunate to have the support of many amazing advisors, and 90+ angels across many industries, including the world's foremost experts in AI.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As part of our early talent program, Cartesia is hiring a Product Engineer Intern to ship high-impact, model-powered experiences across Cartesia’s surfaces—marketing site, onboarding flows, self-serve funnels, dashboards, docs, and APIs—in close collaboration with our GTM, model serving, research, and product teams.
You’ll work end-to-end across the stack to build, iterate on, and measure developer-first product experiences that drive activation, retention, and revenue. As a Cartesia intern, you’ll ship to production, own meaningful pieces of the product, and see your work directly impact Cartesia’s growth.
YOUR IMPACT
- Ship developer-first growth surfaces by combining user insights, data, and first-principles thinking.
- Bring Cartesia’s latest models to market by rapidly building high-performance interfaces and flows that help users discover, evaluate, and adopt them.
- Instrument and analyze key metrics (e.g., sign-up → first call, time-to-first-production-use, feature adoption) and iterate based on real user behavior.
- Communicate publicly about your work via Cartesia’s official channels as well as your own profiles.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with GTM, model serving, research, and product to craft surfaces that grow Cartesia and multiply our work.
- Help identify and reduce friction across the user journey—from first touch on the website to successful integration in production.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, with at least one previous internship or substantial project experience in software development.
- Proficient in TypeScript, with experience building modern web applications using React or a similar framework.
- Comfortable working across the stack; some backend experience in Python or Go with a focus on APIs.
- Evidence of shipping and iterating on a user-facing product in a fast-moving environment (internships, side projects, hackathons, open-source, or startup experience).
- Deep intuition for what makes a great developer experience—clear docs, intuitive APIs, and fast, reliable interfaces.
- Curiosity about product metrics and experimentation; you’re excited to use data and user feedback to guide what you build.
- You’re a little unhinged.
NICE-TO-HAVES
- Experience building or instrumenting growth surfaces such as sign-up flows, pricing pages, dashboards, or docs.
- Familiarity with analytics and experimentation concepts (e.g., event tracking, A/B testing, funnels).
- Experience building voice agents or voice-enabled applications.
- Active online presence on X/Twitter, LinkedIn, or a personal blog showcasing projects, writing, or developer-focused work.
OUR CULTURE
🏢 We’re an in-person team based out of San Francisco. We love being in the office, hanging out together, and learning from each other every day.
🚢 We ship fast. All of our work is novel and cutting edge, and execution speed is paramount. We have a high bar, and we don’t sacrifice quality or design along the way.
🤝 We support each other. We have an open & inclusive culture that’s focused on giving everyone the resources they need to succeed.

How to Get Visa Sponsorship as a Product Engineer
Lead with your technical stack, not just 'product sense'
Product Engineer roles require both engineering execution and product thinking. Emphasize specific technologies you've shipped with, like React, Python, or GraphQL, alongside product outcomes. Employers sponsoring OPT want evidence you can build, not just strategize.
Target companies with an active LCA filing history
Companies that have filed Labor Condition Applications for Product Engineer or similar roles before are far more likely to sponsor again. Searching DOL disclosure data for prior filings tells you which employers already have the infrastructure and willingness to sponsor.
Frame your STEM OPT extension as a 36-month runway
If your degree is in a STEM-designated field, you're eligible for a 24-month extension on top of your initial 12 months. Communicating this clearly to hiring managers removes the perception that you're a short-term hire with an immediate sponsorship deadline.
Highlight cross-functional project ownership in your resume
Product Engineers who can show they drove a feature end-to-end, from scoping through deployment, are more attractive to sponsors. Quantify impact with metrics like user adoption rates or latency improvements. Concrete outcomes justify the sponsorship investment.

Does a Product Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for OPT and H-1B purposes?
Product Engineer roles typically qualify as a specialty occupation because they require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related technical field. The key is that the job description must tie the degree requirement to specific engineering functions. Roles blending general product management with minimal engineering may face more scrutiny, so the job title alone is less important than what the role actually requires you to do.
Can I work as a Product Engineer on my initial 12-month OPT before applying for STEM extension?
Yes. Your initial 12-month OPT work authorization is not restricted to STEM fields. As long as the Product Engineer role is directly related to your degree program, you can work in it from day one. If your degree is STEM-designated, you can then apply for the 24-month STEM OPT extension before your initial period expires, giving you up to 36 months total. You must apply for the extension before your current EAD expires.
Where can I find Product Engineer jobs that are open to OPT candidates?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for F-1 OPT and international students seeking visa-friendly roles. Searching Migrate Mate for Product Engineer positions surfaces employers who have previously sponsored work visas, which is the most reliable signal that they'll work with OPT candidates and consider future H-1B sponsorship. Filtering by role type and company size can also help you identify startups and mid-size tech companies, which often move faster in the hiring process.
What happens to my OPT if I lose my Product Engineer job?
F-1 students on OPT have a 90-day unemployment limit across the entire OPT period. If you lose your Product Engineer position, that clock starts immediately. You must report the job loss to your DSO and update your SEVIS record. Finding new employment in a related field resets active employment status. If you exhaust all 90 days before finding a new role, your OPT authorization is terminated and you'll need to transition to another immigration status or depart the U.S.
Does my employer need to do anything specific to hire me as a Product Engineer on OPT?
Your employer does not need to file a petition or pay government fees to hire you on OPT. You already have work authorization through your EAD. However, if you're on STEM OPT extension, your employer must be enrolled in E-Verify and sign a formal training plan with your school. You're also required to report the employer's details to your DSO within 10 days of starting. Most employers familiar with international hiring understand this process, but it's worth confirming E-Verify enrollment before your STEM extension is approved.
