Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Locum Tenens Optometrist to join our dynamic team on a temporary basis. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in optometric care, with expertise in conducting comprehensive eye examinations, diagnosing eye conditions, and providing effective treatment plans. This role offers an excellent opportunity to deliver exceptional patient care while working within a state-of-the-art facility that values professionalism and teamwork. We are seeking a Locum Tenens candidate to cover November and December of 2026. An additional opportunity will also be available in the Summer of 2027.
Responsibilities
- Perform detailed ophthalmic examinations, including assessment of visual acuity, refraction, tonometry, and ocular health evaluations.
- Utilize ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment to identify and monitor eye diseases and conditions.
- Diagnose common eye disorders such as glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, and other disease states; develop appropriate treatment strategies.
- Conduct contact lens fittings and provide patient education on lens care and maintenance.
- Operate medical equipment accurately while adhering to aseptic techniques and safety protocols.
- Document patient encounters thoroughly using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) or Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems in compliance with HIPAA regulations. We use Nextech's MDI Intellechart Pro.
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding diagnoses, treatment options, and preventive eye care measures; ensure excellent customer service.
Qualifications
- Valid license to practice optometry with relevant state (NJ) or regional regulatory bodies.
- Proven experience in ophthalmology or optometry with proficiency in optical experience, and disease management.
- Familiarity with ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment, tonometry devices, and medical coding practices.
- Experience operating EMR/EHR systems efficiently while maintaining accurate medical records.
- Excellent client communication skills with a focus on patient care and education.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities including disease state management, contact lens fitting, and ophthalmic consultations in a fast-paced environment.
