Dental Assistant Jobs in New Jersey: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a dental assistant in New Jersey?
New Jersey requires dental assistants who perform radiographic procedures to hold a radiography certification approved by the State Board of Dentistry, part of the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs. Most employers also expect completion of an accredited dental assisting program, though some hire without formal education and train on the job. Obtaining CPR certification and familiarity with infection control standards strengthens any application significantly in this state.
Which companies hire dental assistants in New Jersey?
Companies currently hiring dental assistants in New Jersey include The Smilist Dental, ProSmile, and Aspen Dental, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. New Jersey's dense network of community health centers and multi-location dental service organizations means consistent openings across both urban centers and suburban counties throughout the year.
Which New Jersey cities have the most dental assistant jobs?
Jersey City, Hillsborough, and Edison have the most dental assistant openings in New Jersey. The concentration reflects population density and the presence of large health systems and dental service organizations anchored in the Newark and Jersey City metro corridor, while Trenton draws additional demand from government-affiliated community health clinics serving central New Jersey residents.
Are there remote dental assistant jobs in New Jersey?
Yes, but they're rare. Dental assisting is an inherently hands-on, chair-side role that requires physical presence with patients and equipment. About 0% of dental assistant openings tied to New Jersey are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions typically involve administrative or insurance coordination duties rather than clinical work.
How can I get hired as a dental assistant in New Jersey with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to dental assisting externship or trainee programs run by community health centers and federally qualified health centers across New Jersey, which regularly bring on candidates with a completed dental assisting program but no clinical history. Large practices affiliated with RWJBarnabas Health and Atlantic Health System sometimes post entry-level chair-side assistant roles open to new graduates. Earning your New Jersey-recognized radiography certification before applying gives candidates a clear edge over those without it.
Where can I find and apply to dental assistant jobs in New Jersey?
