Duties
- Set up prescriptions by obtaining correct stock container and calculating quantities.
- Process prescriptions by data entry and verifies prescription orders.
- Review individual prescriptions for the full range of pharmaceuticals for dispensing.
- Prepare packages and labels prescriptions and drug orders as ordered by the pharmacist.
- Repackage liquids, tablets, capsules, etc., into specified quantities and various size containers.
- Perform pharmacy check for “setting up” new and refilling prescriptions for a final check by the pharmacist.

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 40 pounds may be required.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirements for Pharmacy Technician (GS-06):
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing automated pharmacy systems to enter and retrieve data, dispensing medications to correct customer, and relaying information to patients on proper use of medications. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
