Sterilization and Disinfection Control division manufactures and sells biological and chemical indicators that assess the effectiveness of sterilization and disinfection processes for pharmaceutical, healthcare, and dental industries.
Job Summary
The Manager of Product Management – Medical Device and Life Science is a strategic leadership role responsible for defining and executing the product strategy, roadmap, and lifecycle management of the biological indicator portfolio. This position leads a team of Technical Product Managers and serves as a central driver of innovation, market growth, and cross-functional alignment within the Sterilization and Disinfection business.
This role combines strong upstream product leadership with people management, requiring an experienced product professional who can mentor and develop product managers while driving high-impact product strategies. Acting as the voice of the customer, the Manager will leverage market insights, regulatory requirements, and customer feedback to prioritize investments in new product development, current sustaining efforts, and deliver solutions that improve patient safety and infection control outcomes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership & Portfolio Ownership:
- Define and execute the strategic roadmap for Mesa’s biological indicator portfolio
- Identify and prioritize growth opportunities
- Own portfolio lifecycle management
- Lead product strategy from concept through commercialization alongside the downstream marketing team
- Oversee business case development and presentation to Portfolio Management Group
- Drive cross-functional alignment across R&D, Quality, Regulatory, Operations, and Commercial teams
- People Leadership & Team Development:
- Manage, mentor, and coach Technical Product Managers for Mesa’s other key product lines
- Provide guidance and support to establish clear product roadmaps and coach on effective business case development
- Foster a high-performance, collaborative culture within the global upstream team
- Market Research and Voice of Competitive Analysis:
- Lead customer research and translate market trends into clear problem statements, customer needs and product requirements
- Product Sustainment:
- Lead sustainment efforts across the biological indicator portfolio, ensuring product reliability, quality, and compliance throughout the lifecycle
- Partner with Quality, Regulatory, Operations and R&D to assess, prioritize, and resolve product issues
- Develop and execute customer notifications and product supply interruptions, as well as messaging and training to technical support team and downstream colleagues
- Establish processes and accountability to improve backlog visibility, tracking, and closure performance across the portfolio
- Balance sustainment activities with new product development priorities alongside R&D to ensure continued business performance and customer satisfaction
- Provide leadership-level visibility into sustainment risks, backlog status and remediation plans, escalating as needed to Director of Product Management and R&D and executive stakeholders
Experience and Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Life Sciences, or a related field
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in product management
- Demonstrated experience launching life science and/or medical device regulated products
- Minimum of 2-3 years of management experience leading team(s)
Knowledge and Skillsets Required
Expertise in product management and portfolio strategy
Experience in FDA/ISO 13485 regulated environments
Strong analytical and communication skills
Ability to influence and collaborate with cross-functional teams
Strong domain experience in medical device or life science product lines
Direct experience in biological indicators, sterilization or decontamination is not required, however it would be a strongly preferred.
