Outpatient Registered Nurse Jobs in Montana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a outpatient registered nurse in Montana?
You must graduate from an accredited nursing program, pass the NCLEX-RN exam, and obtain an active RN license through the Montana State Board of Nursing. Montana participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact, so nurses licensed in other compact states may practice in Montana without a separate state license. Outpatient positions typically require at least an Associate Degree in Nursing, though many Montana employers prefer a Bachelor of Science in Nursing for care coordination roles.
How much do outpatient registered nurses make in Montana?
Outpatient registered nurses in Montana earn a median of about $85,280 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $70,120 for the lowest 10% to over $113,920 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire outpatient registered nurses in Montana?
Companies currently hiring outpatient registered nurses in Montana include Benefis Health System, Logan Health, and Billings Clinic, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Montana's outpatient market is anchored by large integrated health systems and federally qualified health centers serving both urban and rural populations across the state.
Which Montana cities have the most outpatient registered nurse jobs?
Great Falls, Kalispell, and Helena are the Montana cities with the most outpatient registered nurse openings. Billings drives the highest volume as home to the state's largest medical center and a growing network of specialty clinics, while Missoula and Great Falls support steady demand through their regional hospital systems, university-affiliated practices, and the federally qualified health centers serving surrounding rural communities.
Are there remote outpatient registered nurse jobs in Montana?
Yes, but they're rare. Outpatient nursing is largely hands-on work conducted in clinic settings, so fully remote roles make up a small share of the total. About 17% of outpatient registered nurse openings tied to Montana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions are most often in telephonic triage, care management, or utilization review rather than direct patient care.
How can I get hired as a outpatient registered nurse in Montana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a new-graduate RN residency or clinical transition program at a Montana health system such as Billings Clinic or Logan Health, both of which have structured onboarding tracks for nurses new to ambulatory care. Candidates coming from medical assistant, LPN, or inpatient float pool roles often move into outpatient positions as lateral transitions. Holding an active Montana RN license, completing BLS certification before applying, and targeting entry-level care coordinator or clinic nurse openings at federally qualified health centers strengthens a new candidate's standing considerably.
Where can I find and apply to outpatient registered nurse jobs in Montana?
You can find and apply to outpatient registered nurse jobs in Montana on Migrate Mate, which lists current Montana openings updated regularly. Search the roles that fit your specialty and experience level and apply directly to the ones that match.
