Hospital Social Worker Jobs in Montana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a hospital social worker in Montana?
You must hold an active license issued by the Montana Board of Social Work Examiners, the state body that oversees licensure for social workers in Montana. A Master of Social Work degree from a CSWE-accredited program is required for clinical licensure as an LCSW, while a Bachelor of Social Work supports entry-level LSW registration. After completing your degree, you apply to the Board, submit supervised hours documentation, and pass the ASWB licensing exam at the appropriate level.
Which companies hire hospital social workers in Montana?
Montana hospital social worker roles are posted by Billings Clinic, Benefis Health System, and Logan Health and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Montana's mix of large regional health systems, critical access hospitals, and tribal health facilities means openings appear across a range of organization sizes and settings throughout the state.
Which Montana cities have the most hospital social worker jobs?
Billings, Great Falls, and Cut Bank are the Montana cities with the most hospital social worker openings. Billings anchors the largest concentration as home to the state's biggest regional medical center, while Missoula and Great Falls each support major hospital campuses that generate consistent clinical social work demand, including roles in behavioral health, oncology, and discharge planning.
Are there remote hospital social worker jobs in Montana?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of hospital social worker openings tied to Montana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the hands-on, in-person nature of most hospital social work. The roles most likely to carry a remote or hybrid component are telephonic case management, utilization review, and crisis line coordination rather than bedside or acute care discharge positions.
How can I get hired as a hospital social worker in Montana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for social work internship placements or post-graduate supervised hours positions at large Montana health systems such as Billings Clinic or Benefis Health System, which regularly host MSW field placements and early-career clinical staff. Adjacent roles in case management, community health navigation, or behavioral health technician work at Montana critical access hospitals can build the documented hours needed for full licensure. Completing your supervised practice requirements under an LCSW in a Montana hospital setting while working toward your own licensure is the clearest credential that separates candidates with limited experience.
Where can I find and apply to hospital social worker jobs in Montana?
You can find and apply to hospital social worker jobs in Montana on Migrate Mate, which lists current Montana openings. Search the listings to find roles that fit your license level, specialty, and location, then apply directly to the ones that match your experience.
