Physical Therapist Jobs in Pittsburgh: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a physical therapist job in Pittsburgh?
Pittsburgh's strongest hiring comes from its dense concentration of academic medical centers in Oakland, outpatient orthopedic and sports rehab clinics throughout the East End, and expanding home health networks serving surrounding Allegheny County communities. Candidates with hands-on clinical experience in neuro or musculoskeletal settings stand out, and familiarity with the city's aging population needs gives applicants a clear edge in hospital and long-term care settings.
Which companies hire physical therapists in Pittsburgh?
Employers hiring physical therapists in Pittsburgh right now include UPMC, Net Health, and The Children's Institute, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Pittsburgh's mix of large academic health systems, regional outpatient clinic chains, and independent private practices means openings appear across a wide range of employer sizes and care settings.
Are there remote physical therapist jobs in Pittsburgh?
Yes, but with significant limits, since most physical therapist work is inherently hands-on and requires in-person patient contact. About 42% of physical therapist openings tied to Pittsburgh are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with those positions typically covering telehealth initial consultations, case management, or clinical documentation roles rather than direct treatment.
How can I get a physical therapist job in Pittsburgh with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Pittsburgh is through a clinical rotation or graduate school affiliation with one of the city's large academic medical systems in Oakland, which frequently convert students and new graduates into staff positions. Rehabilitation aide and physical therapy technician roles at outpatient clinics in neighborhoods like Squirrel Hill and the North Shore also serve as strong stepping stones, building local professional relationships that lead directly to full therapist openings.
Which industries hire the most physical therapists in Pittsburgh?
The sectors hiring the most physical therapists in Pittsburgh are Healthcare & Medical Services and Technology & Software, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Pittsburgh's identity as a healthcare and education hub, anchored by its major university health systems and a growing senior care infrastructure, makes these sectors the dominant and most consistent sources of local physical therapist demand.
