Physician - Emergency Medicine Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a physician - emergency medicine in California?
You must hold an unrestricted license issued by the Medical Board of California, which requires completing medical school, a residency in emergency medicine accredited by the ACGME, and passing the USMLE or COMLEX licensing examinations. After licensure, most California hospitals require board certification through the American Board of Emergency Medicine. Fellowship training in areas such as ultrasound, toxicology, or pediatric emergency medicine adds a competitive edge in California's large academic systems.
Which companies hire physician - emergency medicines in California?
Employers hiring physician - emergency medicines in California right now include Vituity, TeamHealth, and Alameda Health System, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. California's mix of large integrated systems, county-run trauma centers, and academic medical centers means openings appear across both urban hospital campuses and regional safety-net facilities throughout the state.
Which California cities have the most physician - emergency medicine jobs?
Oakland, Loma Linda, and Fresno consistently post the most physician - emergency medicine openings in California. Los Angeles dominates by volume given the concentration of Level I trauma centers, large county hospitals, and major health systems, while San Francisco and San Diego see strong demand driven by academic medical centers and military-affiliated facilities serving those metro populations.
Are there remote physician - emergency medicine jobs in California?
Yes, but they are rare. Emergency medicine is a hands-on, procedural specialty that requires direct patient contact in an emergency department, so the overwhelming majority of roles are fully on-site. About 21% of physician - emergency medicine openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions are almost exclusively in telemedicine triage, utilization review, or medical director advisory roles rather than direct clinical care.
How can I get hired as a physician - emergency medicine in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for attending positions immediately after completing residency, as California health systems including Kaiser Permanente, Dignity Health, and county hospital networks regularly recruit new graduates for their emergency departments. Targeting community emergency departments or urgent care-to-ED feeder programs at mid-size California hospitals builds the volume and procedural experience large academic centers expect. Holding a current Medical Board of California license and ABEM eligibility before applying shortens hiring timelines considerably.
Where can I find and apply to physician - emergency medicine jobs in California?
You can find and apply to physician - emergency medicine jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings across hospitals, health systems, and medical groups. Search the listings, find roles that match your credentials and preferred location, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
