Physician Jobs in Philadelphia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a physician job in Philadelphia?
The strongest path into Philadelphia's physician market runs through its academic medical centers, large regional health systems, and federally qualified health centers serving the city's underserved neighborhoods. Candidates with board certification, experience in high-volume inpatient settings, or a subspecialty aligned with an aging urban population stand out. Demonstrating familiarity with value-based care models and community health priorities gives applicants a clear edge with Philadelphia employers.
Which companies hire physicians in Philadelphia?
Companies currently hiring physicians in Philadelphia include Thomas Jefferson University & Jefferson Health, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and Penn Medicine, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Philadelphia's hiring landscape is shaped by large integrated health systems, teaching hospitals affiliated with its medical schools, and a growing network of outpatient and specialty group practices across the metropolitan area.
Are there remote physician jobs in Philadelphia?
Yes, though remote physician work is limited by nature given the hands-on demands of most clinical roles. About 7% of physician openings tied to Philadelphia are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, primarily in telehealth, utilization review, and medical director or administrative medicine positions that do not require in-person patient care.
How can I get a physician job in Philadelphia with little or no experience?
Newly licensed physicians in Philadelphia most realistically enter through residency-affiliated hospitals, community health centers in neighborhoods like Kensington or West Philadelphia, or internal medicine and family medicine group practices that sponsor new graduates. Positions in urgent care networks and the Veterans Affairs medical system also serve as strong entry points, often with structured mentorship and a caseload that builds clinical breadth quickly.
Which industries hire the most physicians in Philadelphia?
The sectors hiring the most physicians in Philadelphia are Healthcare & Medical Services, Education, and Agriculture & Farming, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Philadelphia's dense concentration of research universities, nationally ranked hospitals, and public health infrastructure across Center City and University City drives consistent physician demand across both clinical and academic roles.
