Platform Developer Jobs in New Jersey: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a platform developer in New Jersey?
Platform developer roles in New Jersey do not require a state-issued license. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or information systems, though some accept equivalent demonstrated experience. New Jersey's concentration of fintech and pharma employers means candidates who add cloud certifications from AWS or Google and build a portfolio of platform or API projects are consistently competitive with four-year graduates.
How much do platform developers make in New Jersey?
Platform developers in New Jersey earn a median of about $135,940 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $84,880 for the lowest 10% to over $207,200 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire platform developers in New Jersey?
Employers hiring platform developers in New Jersey right now include Deloitte, Barclays, and Guardian Life, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. New Jersey's dense corridor of financial services, telecom, and life sciences firms generates consistent platform engineering demand throughout the year rather than in seasonal bursts.
Which New Jersey cities have the most platform developer jobs?
Holmdel, Whippany, and Princeton have the most platform developer openings in New Jersey. Jersey City and Newark benefit from their proximity to Wall Street-adjacent fintech operations and major corporate headquarters, while Parsippany and Bridgewater attract platform roles tied to the pharmaceutical and enterprise software campuses concentrated along the Route 287 corridor.
Are there remote platform developer jobs in New Jersey?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 0% of platform developer openings tied to New Jersey are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the desk-based and tools-driven nature of the work. Roles focused on API design, developer tooling, and cloud infrastructure tend to be the most consistently remote, while positions requiring close collaboration with on-site infrastructure teams lean toward hybrid schedules.
How can I get hired as a platform developer in New Jersey with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a junior or associate software engineering role with a platform-adjacent team, then moving laterally once you've built internal tooling experience. Large New Jersey employers like Cognizant and Prudential run structured new-graduate programs that rotate early-career engineers across infrastructure and platform teams. Building a portfolio of public API or SDK projects on GitHub and earning an associate-level AWS or Azure certification gives candidates without a long resume a concrete edge in New Jersey hiring pools.
Where can I find and apply to platform developer jobs in New Jersey?
You can find and apply to platform developer jobs in New Jersey on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Find roles that fit your experience and apply directly to the ones that match.
