Point Of Care Testing Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a point of care testing in Illinois?
Illinois does not issue a state-specific license solely for point of care testing coordinators, but most employers require national certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology or the American Medical Technologists. A two- or four-year degree in medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or a health sciences field is the standard education path. Large Illinois health systems typically also require demonstrated CLIA compliance knowledge before placing candidates in coordinator roles.
Which companies hire point of care testings in Illinois?
Companies currently hiring point of care testings in Illinois include UChicago Medicine, Abbott, and Alight Solutions, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Illinois's large integrated health systems and regional hospital networks are among the most consistent sources of point of care testing openings across the state.
Which Illinois cities have the most point of care testing jobs?
Illinois, Chicago, and Abbott Park have the most point of care testing openings in Illinois. Chicago dominates because of its dense concentration of academic medical centers, large hospital networks, and commercial reference laboratories, while Peoria and Springfield reflect the presence of major regional systems like OSF HealthCare and HSHS Medical Group that operate multiple acute care facilities outside the metro.
Are there remote point of care testing jobs in Illinois?
Yes, but they're rare. Point of care testing is largely hands-on work tied to clinical sites, instruments, and in-person staff training, so fully remote positions are uncommon. About 43% of point of care testing openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those roles tend to be in program management, regulatory compliance, or vendor support rather than direct testing coordination.
How can I get hired as a point of care testing in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a laboratory assistant or phlebotomy role at an Illinois hospital or outpatient clinic, which builds hands-on exposure to testing workflows. Northwestern Medicine, Advocate Health, and AMITA Health periodically post new-graduate laboratory associate programs in the Chicago area that feed into point of care departments. Completing an ASCP-accredited medical laboratory technician program at a community college like Waubonsee or Moraine Valley Community College, combined with a CLIA waived testing credential, gives candidates a concrete edge when moving into point of care coordinator tracks.
Where can I find and apply to point of care testing jobs in Illinois?
