Mid Level Power Systems Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a mid level power systems engineer job?
Position yourself around ownership, not just participation. Highlight projects where you led the technical work, resolved protection or stability issues, or delivered a study from scoping through final report. Employers at this level want engineers who can work with limited oversight, so your application and interviews should emphasize decisions you made, not just tasks you completed.
Which companies hire mid level power systems engineers?
Companies hiring mid level power systems engineers right now include DNV, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, and Apple, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Hiring at this level covers utilities, investor-owned power companies, renewable energy developers, and engineering consulting firms that staff complex grid and generation projects.
Are there remote mid level power systems engineer jobs?
Yes, though many roles still require on-site or field work depending on project type. About 52% of mid level power systems engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, concentrated in modeling, analysis, and planning work where lab or substation access is not required day to day.
How do I move up to a mid level power systems engineer role?
The path runs through deepening your technical foundation and taking on more ownership over time. Engineers typically build from supporting others' studies to running their own, gaining hands-on experience with tools like PSS/E, PSCAD, or ETAP, and earning results they can quantify. Demonstrating that you can manage a project scope, interface with clients or stakeholders, and catch your own errors signals readiness for a mid level title.
Which industries hire the most mid level power systems engineers?
Mid Level power systems engineer roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Technology & Software, and Electronics & Hardware, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Those sectors drive demand because grid modernization, renewable interconnection, and infrastructure investment all require engineers who can move past junior-level support and take technical ownership of complex power system analyses.
