A Snapshot of Your Day
SGRE is looking for a self-driven and proactive Power System Engineer that would be responsible for developing, testing, and debugging grid simulation models on wind power turbines and plant controllers.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Development of electrical simulation wind turbine models in MATLAB/SIMULINK.
- Develop and validate RMS (PSSE) and EMT (PSCAD) model using the dll obtained from MATLAB/SIMULINK and perform benchmarking.
- Analysis of simulation results and identify needed performance/modelling improvements. Benchmarking and validation of wind turbine models against reference data (field/HIL test result).
- Modeling of Wind Farms; these models will be used to perform steady state, dynamic, transient and frequency domain simulations. Perform simulations to evaluate compliance to requirements related to: Short Circuit, PQ capability, Voltage limits, overloading, of equipment, other simulations.
- Write reports where the input data, results and conclusions of the above simulations will be clearly described.
- Support customer communication including meetings as grid subject matter expert.
What You Bring
- Master’s degree in Electrical Power Engineering
- 8-10 years’ experience in electrical models and control development in performing design and grid compliance.
- Have knowledge of current grid compliance regulations and experience working with grid authorities like ERCOT, NERC, FERC.
- Have experience performing several types of electrical studies like Harmonic Studies, Load Flow Analysis, Dynamic Stability, Frequency domain analysis, Transient studies.
- Have experience modeling and simulation of control systems (e.g. current control, voltage control) and power system components (e.g. transmission lines, transformers, generators) in time-domain and frequency-domain
- Desirable experience with wind turbines (DFIG and/or FC technologies), or other converter-based units (e.g. PV, HVDC, STATCOM, Energy Storage) or other generation units (e.g. hydro power plants).
- Desirable experience with mathematics; numerical analysis, signal processing: filtering, interpolation, FFT, control theory, optimization techniques.

Senior Level Power Systems Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a senior level power systems engineer job?
Employers at this level look for engineers who have owned complex power systems projects from design through commissioning, not just contributed to them. Strong candidates demonstrate fluency in grid interconnection standards, protection coordination, or large-scale renewable integration, and can show they have mentored junior staff or led cross-functional technical teams. Published work, PE licensure, and a portfolio of delivered projects all sharpen a candidacy considerably.
Which companies hire senior level power systems engineers?
Companies hiring senior level power systems engineers right now include Sargent & Lundy, GE Vernova, and Ghafari Associates, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Hiring at this level comes primarily from utilities, large engineering and consulting firms, defense contractors, and independent power producers that need engineers who can lead programs rather than work within them.
Are there remote senior level power systems engineer jobs?
Yes, though the share depends heavily on project phase and employer type. About 80% of senior level power systems engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with fully remote roles more common in planning, modeling, and standards work than in substation construction or field commissioning assignments.
What makes a power systems engineer role senior level?
Senior level roles are defined by ownership and scope. Engineers at this stage are accountable for technical direction on major systems, set design standards others follow, and resolve the high-stakes problems that escalate from mid-level staff. They routinely mentor engineers, coordinate across disciplines, and interface directly with clients or regulators, meaning communication and judgment carry as much weight as technical skill.
Which industries hire the most senior level power systems engineers?
Senior Level power systems engineer roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Energy, and Technology & Software, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Those sectors drive hiring at this level because they are managing large capital programs, grid modernization initiatives, or defense energy systems that require engineers with both deep expertise and the authority to make binding technical decisions.
