About the role:
As a Lead UX Designer focusing on design systems, you’ll be at the forefront of Target’s evolving digital experience, shaping it for our team members and contributing to business growth. Our Design System is a multi-platform system used by our stores and supply chain design team to create engaging and consistent user experiences. You will drive the evolution of the Design System, including multi-platform libraries, design tokens, versioning, governance, and accessibility, maximizing user adoption and reusability. You will define and deliver exceptionally high quality, usable design components that drive efficiency and consistency across end-to-end guest and employee facing experiences.
You will play a crucial role in driving the product development process, ensuring that our designs align with user needs, business objectives, and technological feasibility. This role will join a team of passionate designers creating components and supporting partners across Target in creating robust, intuitive, and accessible experiences for our guests and team members.
Responsibilities:
Partner and collaborate with a cross functional team of designers, developers and product managers across teams to identify, prioritize, and create new design components that are reusable, responsive and accessible, leveraging these relationships to drive adoption of the design system
Drive the creation of components and patterns in Figma, ensuring component consistency with code, Information Architecture, tokens alignment, definition of variants, auto-layout, proper utilization of plugins, version control, accessibility, and best practices
Ensure the design assets your team creates maintains the highest of quality standards and are thoroughly documented with usage guidelines that connect and resonate with the teams using the design system
Collaborate effectively with developers to maintain and create coded components that align to our design system
Foster education, author training resources, and best practices to ensure a top-notch experience for teams adopting the design system
Bring the latest insights, best practices and design patterns across industries and platforms
Operate comfortably in agile environments within the parameters of sprints, helping the team prioritize work considering needs, resources and capacity
Guide the design process, mentor, and coach other designers
Hold design systems work to a high standard of craft, including accessibility, user research, information architecture, interaction design, visual design
Build a network of relationships to enable your vision in service of our guest and team member experiences
About you:
6+ years of experience in design systems as a senior or lead UX designer with a strong portfolio showcasing successful design work building complex products with reusable components
Advanced understanding of design systems and an ability to communicate its value to a large, complex organizations, including
Advanced knowledge of Figma designing, governing, and scaling component libraries
Ability to influence strategy by engaging and collaborating effectively with design, product, and engineering partners
Strong communication and storytelling skills, including the ability to articulate design decisions with logic and data
An ability to evaluate and manage competing priorities and timelines
Fluency in best practices for responsive design, accessible web, ios and android interfaces that meet WCAG Accessibility standards
Fluency in best practices and process around governance and maintenance of large-scale design systems
