- Own BOM release and maintenance, ensuring accurate documentation and reporting for stakeholders.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies.
- Prepare comprehensive design documentation for manufacturing and testing of prototypes and production products.
- Act as a module and system-level technical expert, supporting complex semiconductor equipment in both development labs and customer fabs
- Diagnose and resolve advanced system, hardware, and process issues, including escalations beyond standard support
- Drive root cause analysis (RCCA) and implement sustainable solutions across tools, sites, and product lines
- Support new product introduction (NPI), including early builds, lab validation, and ramp to high-volume manufacturing
- Lead or support first-in-fab (Alpha / Beta) deployments, Lab tools, — installation, start-up, and qualification
- Translate field and customer feedback into design, performance, and reliability improvements
- Contribute to yield improvement, tool performance, and uptime in demanding fab environments
- Develop and share best practices, technical documentation, and global standards
- Collaborate cross-functionally with hardware, software, controls, and process engineering teams
- Lead / Support global initiatives, mentor engineers and represent ASM in customer-facing teams
What we are looking for
- Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Systems, or similar disciplines); Data analytics/AI agentic is a plus.
- Experience in semiconductor equipment or complex technical environments
- Knowledge of CE, NFPA, Semi S2-95, and other relevant standards for semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
- Strong problem-solving mindset with system-level thinking
- Hands-on approach and ability to connect theory with real-world system behavior
- Analytical skills (DOE, data analysis, structured problem solving)
- Comfortable working across global teams and time zones
- Strong communication skills, including customer-facing interactions
- Willingness to travel internationally (~20%)
What sets you apart
- Work across a broad range of technologies (plasma, vacuum, gas delivery, software, hardware integration, data analytics)
- Operate where product development meets real-world fab performance
- High visibility and impact across engineering, operations, supply chain, and customers

Principal Engineer Jobs in Phoenix: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a principal engineer job in Phoenix?
Focus your search on Phoenix's semiconductor corridor along the I-10 and I-17, aerospace and defense contractors near Deer Valley, and the growing cloud and software firms anchored in Tempe and Scottsdale. Employers here weight hands-on systems design experience heavily, so candidates who can show architecture ownership on complex distributed or embedded systems stand out. Building visibility at local IEEE Phoenix chapter events and Arizona Tech Council meetups also opens doors that cold applications rarely do.
Which companies hire principal engineers in Phoenix?
Phoenix principal engineer roles are posted by Honeywell Aerospace, Freeport-McMoRan, and ASM and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. The Phoenix metro draws a broad mix of large semiconductor fabs, defense contractors, utility technology firms, and fast-growing software companies, making it one of the more diverse principal engineer hiring markets in the Southwest.
Are there remote principal engineer jobs in Phoenix?
Yes, though availability depends heavily on the discipline, principal engineers in software architecture and platform engineering tend to find remote options more readily than those in chip design, advanced manufacturing, or physical infrastructure roles. About 61% of principal engineer openings tied to Phoenix are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, skewing toward software and data platform roles. Semiconductor and aerospace positions in the metro are almost exclusively on-site.
How can I get a principal engineer job in Phoenix with little or no experience?
The most realistic path into Phoenix's principal engineer pipeline is landing a senior engineer role at one of the metro's mid-size software or semiconductor firms, then taking on architecture ownership within 12 to 18 months. Companies in Tempe's tech cluster and Chandler's semiconductor corridor regularly grow senior engineers into staff and principal roles from within. Contributing to internal platform or tooling projects, volunteering to lead design reviews, and earning a cloud or systems architecture certification signals readiness to hiring managers faster than years of tenure alone.
Which industries hire the most principal engineers in Phoenix?
Most principal engineer openings in Phoenix sit in Insurance and Technology & Software, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Phoenix's position as a national semiconductor manufacturing hub, combined with its large aerospace and defense presence near Deer Valley and a maturing enterprise software sector, drives consistent demand for senior technical leadership across those fields year-round.
