The Senior Manufacturing Engineer serves as the subject matter expert on digital press equipment, capabilities, and emerging technologies. This role is responsible for driving process standardization, equipment performance, and continuous improvement initiatives across the digital press fleet. The position partners closely with Operations, Quality, Engineering, and external vendors to ensure optimal equipment performance, scalability, and consistency across manufacturing sites.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Expertise & Leadership
- Serve as the resident expert on digital press equipment, including hardware, software, and integrated systems.
- Stay at the forefront of emerging technologies and industry trends, evaluating and recommending new capabilities to enhance production performance.
- Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support to site teams across multiple manufacturing locations.
Process Standardization & Optimization
- Develop, implement, and maintain standardized operating procedures (SOPs) for press operation and maintenance.
- Drive consistency across sites by establishing best practices and ensuring adoption of standardized processes.
- Identify process gaps and implement solutions to improve throughput, quality, and reliability.
Performance Management & KPI Ownership
- Establish, monitor, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to equipment performance, uptime, quality, and productivity.
- Analyze performance data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Lead initiatives to improve KPI performance and ensure sustainable results.
Continuous Improvement
- Partner with cross-functional teams and vendors to drive continuous improvement efforts across the press fleet.
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for equipment and process issues impacting KPIs, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Support Lean and Six Sigma initiatives to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and enhance overall operational performance.
Vendor & Stakeholder Collaboration
- Collaborate with equipment manufacturers, software providers, and internal stakeholders to optimize system performance and resolve technical challenges.
- Support vendor selection, equipment upgrades, and implementation of new technologies.
- Act as a key liaison between manufacturing sites and engineering/technology teams.
Training & Knowledge Transfer
- Develop training materials and provide guidance to operations and maintenance teams on equipment best practices.
- Promote knowledge sharing across sites to ensure consistency and continuous capability development.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working with digital press equipment, including hardware and software systems in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience in process improvement, equipment optimization, and cross-site standardization.
- Strong ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating procedures, maintenance manuals, and technical documentation.
- Proficiency in analyzing data and applying statistical and problem-solving techniques to improve performance.
- Ability to perform calculations involving proportions, percentages, and basic algebra/geometry as needed for engineering analysis.
- Proven ability to apply logical and common-sense reasoning to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
- Strong root cause analysis and corrective action experience.
- Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts through written reports, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and CAD tools preferred.
Education
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required. A master’s degree is highly preferred.
Travel Requirements
Ability to travel as needed to support multiple manufacturing locations, vendor sites, and industry events.
