Manufacturing Engineer Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a manufacturing engineer in Massachusetts?
Most manufacturing engineer roles in Massachusetts require a bachelor's degree in mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing engineering from an ABET-accredited program. Massachusetts does not require a state license to work as a manufacturing engineer in most private-sector roles, though engineers who sign off on public-facing designs may pursue licensure through the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. Employers in defense and medical devices commonly expect relevant certifications such as Six Sigma or quality management credentials.
How much do manufacturing engineers make in Massachusetts?
Manufacturing engineers in Massachusetts earn a median of about $109,420 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $81,960 for the lowest 10% to over $161,870 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire manufacturing engineers in Massachusetts?
Employers hiring manufacturing engineers in Massachusetts right now include Raytheon, VulcanForms, and Commonwealth Fusion Systems, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Massachusetts's concentration of aerospace, defense, and medical device companies means many of the largest and most consistent hirers operate regulated manufacturing environments where process engineering and quality compliance skills carry extra weight.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most manufacturing engineer jobs?
Andover, Devens, and Boston have the most manufacturing engineer openings in Massachusetts. Greater Boston and the Route 128 corridor drive the majority of postings because of the region's dense concentration of defense contractors, medical device companies, and biotech manufacturers, while areas like Springfield and Worcester reflect strong industrial and precision manufacturing operations anchored by larger regional employers.
Are there remote manufacturing engineer jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, but they're rare. About 18% of manufacturing engineer openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, which reflects how hands-on the role is by nature. The tasks most commonly done off-site include CAD work, documentation, process analysis, and supplier coordination, while production floor responsibilities almost always require an on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a manufacturing engineer in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to co-op or new-graduate programs at large Massachusetts manufacturers. Employers like Raytheon Technologies, Boston Scientific, and General Dynamics run structured early-career and rotational programs that place new engineers directly into production and process roles. Engineering technician and quality assurance associate positions offer a practical lateral entry point. A strong co-op record from a Massachusetts university, combined with SolidWorks proficiency and any lean manufacturing coursework, gives candidates a clear edge in the applicant pool.
Where can I find and apply to manufacturing engineer jobs in Massachusetts?
You can find and apply to manufacturing engineer jobs in Massachusetts on Migrate Mate, which lists current Massachusetts openings. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly from the listing.
