Position Summary
As a Principal Software Engineer on the Marketplace Platform team, you will play a pivotal role in driving the architecture, design and maintenance of advanced frameworks that elevate Walmart's Marketplace capabilities, ensuring unparalleled experiences for both sellers and channel partners. Your responsibilities will encompass designing, coding, debugging, optimizing, and monitoring application health to ensure robust performance. In addition to these technical duties, you will provide mentorship to junior engineers, fostering their professional growth, and actively collaborate with product and UX/UI teams to deliver seamless integrations. You will oversee the management of the Walmart Marketplace Platform for experience and API, empowering third-party sellers to utilize services from Solution Partners effectively. About Team
Join the innovative Walmart Marketplace Platform team, where creativity and technological innovation drive success. We specialize in enhancing Seller and Channel Partner Portal experiences and managing our advanced Marketplace API gateway. Our tech stack includes Java for backend services and ReactJS for frontend development, providing an exciting opportunity for growth and collaboration.
Architecture & Design: Stay abreast of emerging technologies, make strategic architectural decisions, and maintain comprehensive documentation. Drive the architectural vision and ensure scalable and robust system design.
Coding/Building: Dedicate 60% of your time to hands-on coding, conducting thorough code reviews, debugging, and optimizing code. Work independently while ensuring top-notch code quality and adherence to best practices.
Mentoring & Learning: Provide mentorship to team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth. Lead by example and encourage knowledge sharing within the team.
Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to enhance user experiences and ensure seamless integration. Facilitate effective communication and collaboration across departments.
App Health, Quality, and Performance: Prioritize application quality, respond swiftly to feedback, improve performance, and address critical issues proactively. Implement best practices for monitoring and maintaining application health.
Tech Initiatives & Innovation: Lead and contribute to technological advancements and innovation within the team. Champion new ideas and drive the adoption of cutting-edge technologies.
Time Management & Planning: Develop detailed project timelines, manage tasks efficiently, and practice effective time management. Ensure timely delivery of high-quality projects.
Engineering Excellence: Focus on meticulous, detail-oriented work, conduct rigorous code reviews, and resolve complex technical challenges. Uphold the highest standards of engineering excellence.
Leadership: Provide strategic technical guidance, lead and manage projects, and coordinate with other teams to achieve successful outcomes. Exhibit strong leadership qualities and mentor junior team members.
What You Will Bring
- Proficiency in Microservice architecture for backend services
- Expertise in TypeScript and frontend frameworks such as React
- Deep understanding of distributed systems, RESTful APIs, system design, and microservices architecture
- Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD pipelines
- Familiarity with both SQL and NoSQL databases, as well as caching solutions
- Experience working in platform teams or building shared tools and frameworks for other developers
- Proven ability to write clean, testable, and maintainable code
- Prior experience with cloud-native technologies (GCP/Azure) and DevOps practices
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated leadership abilities to lead projects and mentor junior team members
- Experience in e-commerce or marketplace platforms
- Familiarity with containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes
- Exposure to developer productivity, observability, or DevOps tools
- Contributions to open-source projects or active involvement in internal platform evangelism

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include stock.
Minimum Qualifications

Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
Option 2: 7 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
