Aseptic Production Shift Manager
Facility: Manufacturing
Location: Clayton, NC, US
About the Department
You will be joining Fill & Finish Expansions (FFEx), which is responsible for all major expansion activities within aseptic production, solid dosage forms, finished products, fill & finish warehousing, and QC across all production areas in Product Supply. The area is anchored in Product Supply, Quality & IT, which globally employ approx. 20,000 of Novo Nordisk’s 50,000 employees.
FFEx is a newly established and growing area with the responsibility to design, plan, and build all new aseptic filling capacity across Novo Nordisk to serve the needs of millions of patients. We do it by rethinking our production facilities with the use of modern technology, as we are setting the standards for the aseptic production of the future. Facilities designed today which we will still be proud of 20 years from now. FF Expansions has a global approach, where you will be working with multiple sites and cultures across the world.

The Position
Lead, coach, and mentor shift process teams to execute production plans in order to meet quality, customer and business objectives.
Relationships
Reports to Senior Manager/ Director, Aseptic or Finished Production.
Essential Functions
- Create a safe, productive, and engaging workplace
- Promote adherence to all quality objectives, specifications, and requirements
- Coach and mentor work cell leaders, operations area specialists, quality improvement specialists, process team members & technical area specialists, as applicable
- Provide direction, prioritization, and motivation for all shift team members
- Responsible for management of people for all shift team members (personnel issues, employment decisions, vacation planning, etc.)
- Perform process confirmation of standards to ensure compliance
- Collaborate across shift teams to share, standardize, and continuously improve
- Other accountabilities, as assigned
Physical Requirements
Moves equipment &/or supplies weighing up to 33 pounds within the facility using various body positions. Routinely operates & inspects manufacturing equipment using hands. Strap & unstrap pallets using hands. Must be able to be on your feet for up to a 12-hour shift. May require corrected vision to 20/20 or 20/25 based on role. May require color vision based on role. Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder. May be required to work at elevated heights. Occasionally works around odorous &/or hazardous materials. May be required to wear latex gloves. May perform critical job functions in extremely cold work environments depending on site. May position oneself within confined spaces for inspection if required of the role. Ability to work in loud noise environments with hearing protection. May be required to secure a motorized vehicle license & operate a motorized vehicle based on the role.
Development of People
Supervisory. Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process. Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility. Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in a manufacturing organization required, preferably pharmaceutical manufacturing; or
- May consider an Associate’s degree from an accredited university with two (2) additional years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably pharmaceutical manufacturing; or
- May consider a High School diploma or GED with four (4) additional years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably pharmaceutical manufacturing
- Minimum of three (3) years of direct supervisory experience required or for internal candidates may consider successful completion of NN leadership talent development program (ie: GROW)
- Two (2) years of Aseptic Processing experience (Aseptic Production only) preferred
- Ability to read, write and understand complicated product documentation and standard operating procedures with attention to detail preferred
- Computer expertise in the following applications: MS Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Access, PLCs, PAS-X a plus
- Experience utilizing process improvement or Lean manufacturing tools, or Six Sigma methodologies preferred
- Demonstrated experience using systematic approaches to problem solving and decision making required
