Production Control Manager Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a production control manager in California?
Most production control managers in California start with a bachelor's degree in supply chain management, industrial engineering, operations management, or a closely related field. California does not require a state-issued license for this role, but employers in aerospace and defense often expect APICS CPIM or CSCP certification. Building experience in production planning, scheduling coordinator, or materials analyst roles at California manufacturers is the most direct path to a management position.
How much do production control managers make in California?
Production control managers in California earn a median of about $132,620 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $80,950 for the lowest 10% to over $222,020 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire production control managers in California?
Employers hiring production control managers in California right now include Tesla, Raytheon, and Apex Technology, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. California's concentration of aerospace primes, defense contractors, and medical device manufacturers means steady hiring across both large systems integrators and their regional supplier networks.
Which California cities have the most production control manager jobs?
Palmdale, El Segundo, and Los Angeles have the most production control manager openings in California. Los Angeles and San Diego drive the bulk of demand through their dense aerospace, defense, and electronics manufacturing bases, while the Bay Area adds significant volume through semiconductor and medical device companies headquartered or manufacturing in that region.
Are there remote production control manager jobs in California?
Yes, but they're rare. Production control managers typically work on-site to coordinate directly with production floors, warehouses, and procurement teams, making full remote work uncommon. About 0% of production control manager openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those tend to be higher-level planning and scheduling coordination roles that can operate away from the factory floor.
How can I get hired as a production control manager in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a production planner, scheduling coordinator, or materials analyst role at a California manufacturer, then building toward management. Large California aerospace and defense employers like Northrop Grumman and L3Harris run rotational operations programs and hire new graduates into production planning teams. Earning an APICS CPIM certification early demonstrates commitment and gives candidates a concrete edge when competing against more experienced applicants.
