Assistant Operations Manager Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a assistant operations manager in California?
Most California employers require a bachelor's degree in business administration, operations management, supply chain, or a related field, combined with hands-on experience in an operational setting. There is no state-issued license specific to this role, but California's competitive market means employers look closely at experience with multi-site coordination, ERP systems, and direct supervisory responsibility. Industries like healthcare operations may additionally value familiarity with California Department of Public Health compliance requirements and Joint Commission standards.
How much do assistant operations managers make in California?
Assistant operations managers in California earn a median of about $124,390 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $60,370 for the lowest 10% to over $293,810 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire assistant operations managers in California?
Employers hiring assistant operations managers in California right now include Finish Line, KFC, and Wendy's, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's size and industry diversity mean openings appear across logistics providers, large retail chains, hospital systems, and tech-sector operations teams throughout the state.
Which California cities have the most assistant operations manager jobs?
San Diego, Sacramento, and San Francisco have the most assistant operations manager openings in California. Los Angeles anchors the list through its massive retail, entertainment, and logistics industries, while the San Francisco Bay Area draws heavily from tech and healthcare operations, and San Diego's defense contracting, biotech, and port activity create steady demand for operations leadership across those sectors.
Are there remote assistant operations manager jobs in California?
Yes, but they're relatively limited. About 1% of assistant operations manager openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the role's frequent need for on-site presence to oversee staff, inventory, and facilities. The portions of the role most compatible with remote work are administrative reporting, vendor communication, scheduling, and data analysis tasks.
How can I get hired as a assistant operations manager in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving up from an operations coordinator, shift supervisor, or team lead role within a California employer that promotes internally. Large California logistics operators, Kaiser Permanente, and major retail chains like Target and Amazon run structured advancement programs that place strong performers in assistant manager tracks without requiring years of prior management experience. Building familiarity with lean operations principles, earning a certificate in project management or supply chain, and demonstrating on-the-job process improvement results accelerate the transition considerably.
Where can I find and apply to assistant operations manager jobs in California?

Search the listings for roles that match your experience level and location, then apply directly to the ones that fit. No sign-up is required to view and apply to open positions.
