Tips for Your Operations Manager Job Search
Quantify process improvements on your resume
Operations manager roles demand measurable outcomes, so replace vague descriptions with concrete results. Show how you reduced costs, cut cycle times, or improved throughput. Hiring managers skim for numbers, so lead every bullet with the metric you moved.
Match your resume to the industry vertical
An operations manager resume built for a warehouse distributor reads differently than one for a SaaS company. Tailor your language to the sector you're targeting. Lean ops terminology works in manufacturing, while cross-functional and stakeholder language lands better in tech and services.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists operations manager openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Target openings that list your certifications
Postings that explicitly call out Lean, Six Sigma, or PMP certification are filtering for those credentials at the screening stage. If you hold them, prioritize those roles. If you don't, they're a signal about which certification to pursue next.
Prepare a structured process improvement story
Interviewers consistently ask operations candidates to walk through a process they fixed. Prepare a concise example using situation, action, and result. Practicing this out loud before interviews prevents generic answers and keeps your delivery tight under pressure.
Negotiate offer terms beyond base pay
Operations manager offers often include signing bonuses, relocation packages, and professional development budgets that are more flexible than the base salary line. Ask about performance review timelines and equity if the role is at a growth-stage company before you accept.
Operations Manager Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most operations managers?
The companies hiring the most operations managers right now include AutoZone, Finish Line, and Walgreens, with the largest share of openings in California, Texas, and New York, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Roles are concentrated in distribution, healthcare systems, and technology operations teams.
How many operations manager jobs are remote?
About 13% of operations manager openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, which is lower than many other management roles because the position frequently requires on-site oversight. Remote opportunities are most common in SaaS operations, business operations at tech companies, and revenue operations functions that don't oversee physical facilities or production floors.
How do you become an operations manager?
Most operations managers move into the role after several years in coordinator, analyst, or supervisor positions where they owned measurable processes. Building fluency in at least one ERP platform, earning a process improvement certification like Lean or Six Sigma, and taking on cross-functional projects that demonstrate leadership all strengthen your candidacy. A bachelor's degree in business or a related field is expected by most employers.
Can you get hired as an operations manager without much experience?
Getting hired directly into an operations manager title without prior management experience is uncommon, but moving up from an operations coordinator or team lead role within the same organization is a realistic path. Focus on owning a process end to end, documenting the outcome, and making the case internally. Some smaller companies and startups will consider candidates who can demonstrate analytical rigor and leadership potential even without a formal management title on their resume.
What does the operations manager interview process look like?
The process typically starts with a recruiter screen focused on your background and availability, followed by a structured behavioral interview with the hiring manager centered on process improvement examples and leadership situations. Many employers add a case study or written exercise asking you to diagnose an operational problem and propose a fix. Final rounds often include a panel with finance, HR, or department heads to assess cross-functional fit before an offer is extended.
Where can I find and apply to operations manager jobs?
