Assistant Operations Manager Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a assistant operations manager in Illinois?
Most assistant operations manager roles in Illinois require a bachelor's degree in business, supply chain, or a related field, though no state-issued license applies to the role itself. Illinois employers typically hire candidates who have moved up from lead or coordinator positions within manufacturing, distribution, or healthcare operations. Completing coursework through Illinois institutions or earning a credential like the Certified Supply Chain Professional designation can strengthen your application considerably.
Which companies hire assistant operations managers in Illinois?
Employers hiring assistant operations managers in Illinois right now include DICK'S Sporting Goods, SBM Management Services, and Rush University Medical Center, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Illinois's dense concentration of distribution centers, hospital systems, and corporate headquarters means hiring is spread across both the Chicago metro and secondary markets like Joliet, Aurora, and Peoria.
Which Illinois cities have the most assistant operations manager jobs?
Chicago, Monee, and Batavia have the most assistant operations manager openings in Illinois. Chicago drives the largest volume given its headquarters density, major medical campuses, and international logistics infrastructure, while suburban corridors like Naperville and Joliet generate consistent demand from distribution centers and manufacturing facilities that rely on dedicated operations leadership.
Are there remote assistant operations manager jobs in Illinois?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of assistant operations manager openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting that most of the role involves supervising floor operations, managing physical inventory, or coordinating on-site teams. The portions most likely to allow remote flexibility are reporting, scheduling, and vendor communication tasks at companies with distributed operations.
How can I get hired as a assistant operations manager in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a shift lead, operations coordinator, or team lead role at a large Illinois employer and building measurable results before applying upward. Earning a project management certificate or demonstrating process improvement experience, even informally, gives candidates a clear edge in competitive applicant pools.
