INTRODUCTION
The Department of Periodontology in the College of Dentistry at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Open Rank Professor. This position is on the clinical track (nontenure), although applicants interested in the tenure-track may also be considered. The successful candidate will actively participate in the teaching, patient care, and service missions of the college.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leading and participating in predoctoral and postgraduate clinical periodontal instruction.
- Delivering lectures, seminars, and case-based learning sessions on contemporary periodontal diagnosis and therapy.
- Supervising students and residents in simulation labs and patient care settings.
- Performing and supervising a full spectrum of periodontal procedures, including implant therapy and regenerative techniques.
- Mentoring students and residents in clinical judgment, professionalism, and evidence-based practice.
- Developing and maintaining course materials and assessments aligned with CODA standards.
- Participating in interdepartmental collaborations, research initiatives, and faculty development programs.
- Contributing to the planning and continuous improvement of the periodontics curriculum.
- Serving on departmental and college-wide committees and engaging in academic service activities.
- Pursuing scholarly activities and opportunities for research, commensurate with experience and track.
- Teaching: Provide didactic, simulation, and clinical instruction to dental students and residents.
- Patient Care: Deliver high-quality periodontal care in a teaching clinic and faculty practice setting.
- Research (Optional/Encouraged): Engage in scholarly activity appropriate to rank and track, including clinical or educational research.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Education: DDS, DMD, or equivalent dental degree. Certificate from a CODA-accredited Advanced Education program in Periodontics (or equivalent training abroad with credentialing).
Experience: Demonstrated commitment to education and patient-centered care. Prior teaching experience in an academic or clinical setting is preferred. Strong clinical skills in both non-surgical and surgical periodontics, including implant therapy.
LICENSE: Eligible for licensure or faculty license in the State of Tennessee. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification. Board certification or eligibility by the American Board of Periodontology is highly desirable.
