Burns & McDonnell's Power global practice is seeking a well-rounded and driven Project Manager to lead Owner's Engineering (OE) assignments for gas-fired power generation and related heavy industrial facilities. The Project Manager will serve as an advisor to the owner and lead the planning and execution of Burns & McDonnell’s multidisciplinary consulting services. Responsibilities may span project development, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, startup, and performance testing, as applicable to the assignment. The Project Manager will lead matrixed project teams and engage the appropriate technical and functional resources to address the owner’s needs.

The Project Manager will be accountable for the safe, high-quality execution of Burns & McDonnell’s services, including management of assigned scope, schedule, budget, commercial performance, risk management, and client satisfaction. This position offers an opportunity for an individual who enjoys client engagement, business development, project development, technical leadership, and the coordination of complex project teams. Travel to client offices, project sites, supplier facilities, and fabrication shops will be required.

• Manage the planning and execution of OE projects for gas-fired generation and related heavy industrial facilities.
• Advise the owner on engineering, technical, commercial, quality, schedule, and project execution matters within the scope of the assignment.
• Serve as the primary interface between the client and the Burns & McDonnell project team, maintaining alignment on objectives, priorities, risks, decisions, deliverables, and performance.
• Lead proposal development, including preparation of scope, schedule, staffing plan, assumptions, and commercial inputs; participate in contract development and negotiations.
• Develop and implement the project execution plan, including governance, communication protocols, decision workflows, document control, quality requirements, and reporting expectations.
• Build and lead matrixed multidisciplinary OE teams and engage the appropriate Project Engineers, Engineering Managers, discipline leads, subject matter resources, project controls, procurement, construction, commissioning, and other functional resources.
• Support and advise the owner through all stages of project development, including site selection, permitting, interconnects, or as further required by assignment.
• Work with owner stakeholders and technical specialists to understand and document client design practices, standards, specifications, operating requirements, and project objectives.
• Develop or coordinate project-specific design criteria, technical specifications, and owner requirements..
• Manage OE discipline workloads and deliverables, including technical guidance, design reviews, constructability reviews, value engineering, requests for information, deviation requests, technical evaluations, and recommendations to the owner.
• Coordinate planned reviews of contractor and supplier work products and advise the owner regarding alignment with owner requirements, project criteria, and applicable codes and standards.
• Establish and manage project schedules, budgets, forecasts, staffing, and financial performance in coordination with project controls and functional leads.
• Identify scope changes or changed conditions, provide timely notice, and manage the preparation, negotiation, authorization, and implementation of amendments and change orders.
• Lead technical and commercial advisory support for owner procurement activities , including bidder-list development, requests for proposal, bid evaluations, clarifications, negotiations, recommendations for award, and post-award administration, as required by the assignment.
• Support owner in monitoring and expediting major equipment suppliers, contractors, subcontractors, and fabrication shops, and facilitate resolution of technical, commercial, quality, and schedule issues.
• Lead the OE team’s evaluation of requests for information, field conditions, design changes, nonconformances, testing issues, turnover matters, and construction constraints and advise the owner on recommended actions.
• Monitor the integration of engineering, procurement, construction, turnover, commissioning, startup, and performance testing activities and advise the owner regarding readiness, interfaces, risks, and corrective actions.
• Lead internal and client project meetings and provide clear, timely status reports addressing safety, quality, scope, schedule, budget, commercial performance, risk, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and key decisions.
• Lead internal and external project risk reviews and coordinate with appropriate risk, legal, commercial, and quality resources as required.
• Manage closeout of Burns & McDonnell’s services and, as required by the assignment, coordinate support for owner project closeout, including completion of deliverables, resolution of open items, documentation turnover, lessons learned, and commercial closeout.
• Foster a culture of proactive communication, accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and commitment to client success.
• Build strong client relationships through successful project execution, identifying emerging client needs and potential follow-on opportunities, and participate in strategic business development and industry activities.
• Be accountable for the safety and health performance of the Burns & McDonnell project team, including compliance with Burns & McDonnell’s safety programs, training, and policies and site-specific safety programs.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field from an accredited program and a minimum of seven years of applicable experience required. Ten years of applicable experience preferred.
• Experience managing owner's engineering, owner's representative, program management, or comparable client-facing technical services assignments preferred. Relevant project management experience gained through detailed design, EPC, construction management, gas-fired power generation, energy, oil and gas, process, manufacturing, or other heavy industrial facilities will also be considered.
• Working knowledge of multidisciplinary engineering, major equipment procurement, contractor interfaces, construction support, commissioning, startup, and project turnover.
• Demonstrated ability to represent an owner, evaluate contractor and supplier work products, communicate technical and commercial issues, and develop practical recommendations.
• Professional Engineer license or project management certification preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare concise executive-level reports and lead client and contractor meetings.
• Strong analytical, critical-thinking, problem-solving, negotiation, and decision-making skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, demanding work environment and to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders.
• Ability to work collaboratively with owners, contractors, engineers, designers, suppliers, construction teams, and commissioning personnel in a multidisciplinary project environment.
• Working knowledge of project controls, document control, scheduling, cost management, risk management, quality management, and commonly used project management systems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to travel to client offices, project sites, supplier facilities, and fabrication shops as required.
