ABOUT THE POSITION
Avantus is seeking an experienced Scheduling Manager to join its Project Controls team. This individual will serve as a subject matter expert in project scheduling, leading a small team of contract schedulers and owning schedule integrity across Avantus's portfolio of renewable energy projects. The Scheduling Manager will be primarily responsible for twelve late-stage projects while also providing scheduling guidance and oversight for dozens of early-stage projects. The role requires deep expertise in solar-plus-storage project delivery within multi-EPC environments, strong collaboration skills, and the ability to synthesize complex scheduling inputs into clear, actionable project schedules. This is a hybrid position based out of San Diego, CA, reporting to the Director of Project Controls.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Team & Portfolio Management
- Manage and mentor a small team of contract schedulers, providing day-to-day direction and quality oversight.
- Own schedule management across a portfolio of twelve late-stage projects and provide scheduling touchpoints for dozens of early-stage projects.
- Ensure all project schedules are accurate, current, and properly maintained in Sitetracker; lead monthly date-roll processes for late-stage projects.
Schedule Development & Maintenance
- Develop project schedules from standard templates at the initiation of the preconstruction phase, and manage and update schedules throughout preconstruction in close collaboration with the project lead.
- Build and maintain master project schedules in both Primavera OPC (P6) and Microsoft Project, integrating inputs from multiple EPC schedules into a single cohesive view.
- Identify logical interdependencies, interface points, and conflicts across EPC schedules; escalate and resolve conflicts proactively.
- Review and validate EPC-submitted schedules for completeness, logic, and alignment with contractual milestones and project objectives.
Cash Flow & Cost Loading
- Partner with the Senior Cost Manager to produce project cash flows through cost-loaded scheduling methodologies.
- Apply best practices for cost loading and resource loading within P6 and Microsoft Project to support accurate cash flow forecasting.
Schedule Quality & Analytics
- Apply industry-standard schedule quality metrics, including Schedule Quality Index (SQI) and Schedule Performance Index (SPI), to assess and communicate schedule health.
- Implement and enforce scheduling best practices, including critical path analysis, logic sequencing, and float management.
- Produce and maintain schedule-related reporting and analytics for internal stakeholders and leadership.
Systems & Process
- Serve as a power user of Sitetracker
- Maintain consistency and data integrity across scheduling tools, including Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and Sitetracker.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of scheduling templates, processes, and standards across the Project Controls function.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in project scheduling, with at least 2 years in a lead or management capacity.
- Demonstrated expertise in Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project, including cost loading, resource loading, and master schedule integration.
- Hands-on experience in renewable energy project delivery, specifically utility-scale solar-plus-storage projects, in a multi-EPC environment.
- Proven ability to develop and integrate master schedules from multiple EPC schedules; experience reviewing, analyzing, and validating EPC-submitted schedules.
- Experience working either on the EPC side or for an IPP/developer responsible for schedule review, integration, and management.
- Proficiency with Sitetracker or equivalent project management/controls platforms.
- Strong understanding of scheduling best practices, including critical path method (CPM), Schedule Quality Index (SQI), Schedule Performance Index (SPI), float management, and logic analysis.
- Experience producing or supporting cash flow development through cost-loaded schedule methodologies, in collaboration with cost management teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present scheduling status and risks clearly to project leads and senior leadership.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- PMI Scheduling Professional (PMI-SP) or AACE Planning & Scheduling Professional (PSP) certification.
- Experience supporting preconstruction schedule development from template through NTP and into construction.
- Familiarity with project controls integration, including cost, schedule, and risk functions within a developer or IPP context.
- Prior experience managing or coordinating contract resource teams.
