Project Coordinator Jobs in Chicago: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a project coordinator job in Chicago?
Focus your search on Chicago's biggest hiring sectors: construction and real estate development along the lakefront and South Loop, healthcare systems anchored in Streeterville and the Medical District, and corporate technology and consulting firms in the Loop and River North. Candidates who hold a PMP or CAPM certification, or experience with tools like Smartsheet or Microsoft Project, stand out in Chicago's competitive market. Networking through local chapters of PMI's Chicago chapter also gives applicants a meaningful edge.
Which companies hire project coordinators in Chicago?
Chicago project coordinator roles are posted by Stantec, Burns & McDonnell, and Jobot and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Chicago's employer base is unusually broad, mixing large healthcare systems, major architecture and engineering firms, financial institutions headquartered downtown, and Fortune 500 corporations that maintain significant operations in the Loop.
Are there remote project coordinator jobs in Chicago?
Yes, though availability depends heavily on the role's nature. Desk-based coordination in technology, consulting, and financial services tends to support remote or hybrid arrangements, while construction, facilities, and healthcare project roles almost always require on-site presence. About 18% of project coordinator openings tied to Chicago are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with the strongest remote options coming from the city's large tech and professional services employers.
How can I get a project coordinator job in Chicago with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Chicago is targeting coordinator assistant or project administrator roles at mid-size construction and real estate firms in the South Loop and West Loop, where employer volume is high and on-the-job training is common. Chicago's large healthcare networks also hire entry-level project support staff with transferable administrative experience. Earning a Google Project Management Certificate or CAPM before applying, and connecting with PMI Chicago for mentorship, meaningfully improves your odds against more experienced candidates.
Which industries hire the most project coordinators in Chicago?
Chicago project coordinator roles concentrate in Construction & Real Estate, Consulting & Professional Services, and Technology & Software, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Chicago's density of major hospital systems, large-scale construction activity in downtown and along the lakefront, and a deep base of management consulting and technology firms all drive sustained, high-volume demand for project coordination talent across the city.
