Project Engineer Jobs in Tampa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a project engineer job in Tampa?
Focus your search on Tampa's construction, civil infrastructure, and defense sectors, which drive the highest volume of project engineer openings locally. Firms working on Port Tampa Bay expansion, I-275 corridor projects, and Westshore redevelopments hire regularly. Candidates who bring field experience alongside PMP or EIT credentials stand out. Targeting contractors and engineering consultancies operating in Hillsborough and Pinellas counties gives you the strongest footing.
Which companies hire project engineers in Tampa?
Companies currently hiring project engineers in Tampa include Arcadis, Core States, and Thornton Tomasetti, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Tampa's mix of large defense primes, regional civil engineering firms, and utility operators means openings appear across both public infrastructure and private development projects.
Are there remote project engineer jobs in Tampa?
Yes, though project engineer roles are often site-dependent, making fully remote positions less common than in purely desk-based fields. About 72% of project engineer openings tied to Tampa are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with hybrid arrangements most common for roles focused on scheduling, budgeting, and design coordination rather than field oversight.
How can I get a project engineer job in Tampa with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Tampa is targeting assistant project engineer or project coordinator roles with mid-size construction and civil engineering firms working on Hillsborough County infrastructure contracts. Internships through the University of South Florida's engineering programs often convert to full-time offers. Entry-level candidates gain an edge by demonstrating AutoCAD, Procore, or Bluebeam proficiency and showing familiarity with Florida Department of Transportation project workflows.
Which industries hire the most project engineers in Tampa?
Tampa project engineer roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Tampa's ongoing port expansion, military facility work at MacDill Air Force Base, and rapid commercial development in the Westshore and Channel District corridors sustain consistent demand across those sectors.
