The Propulsion System Base Software (BSW) Product Manager serves as the primary point of contact for the Propulsion BSW platform to outside stakeholders. This role is responsible for aligning stakeholder needs, platform capabilities, and technical and capacity constraints to create a clear execution plan.
Working closely with BSW engineering, propulsion systems, hardware, integration, validation, and supplier teams, the BSW Product Manager drives feature prioritization, cross-functional alignment, software release readiness, and Agile execution across multiple propulsion programs.
This role combines technical understanding of embedded automotive software with strong product ownership, stakeholder management, Agile leadership, and technical program coordination skills. The BSW Product Manager is expected to understand the broader BSW system architecture, key technical dependencies, integration boundaries, scalability considerations, and the business objectives driving BSW platform decisions. This role helps bridge gaps between teams, processes, and architectures to improve execution efficiency, software quality, platform reuse, and long-term maintainability. The ideal candidate is highly collaborative, organized, and capable of translating complex technical topics into clear priorities, plans, and deliverables.
Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary stakeholder interface and product owner for the Propulsion System BSW platform
Define, maintain, and communicate the BSW platform roadmap and feature backlog
Align platform priorities with program timing, technical strategy, and business objectives
Coordinate cross-functional activities across software, systems, integration, validation, hardware, and supplier teams
Lead Agile product management activities including backlog prioritization, feature planning, and stakeholder reviews
Track software maturity, feature delivery, integration readiness, risks, and issue resolution
Facilitate technical discussions and drive alignment on key decisions, dependencies, and tradeoffs
Support software release planning for prototype and production releases
Promote software reuse, standardization, scalability, and continuous improvement across propulsion platforms
Support alignment with automotive software processes, quality standards, functional safety, and cybersecurity requirements

Senior Level Propulsion Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a senior level propulsion engineer job?
Employers hiring at the senior level look for engineers who have owned a propulsion subsystem or full system end-to-end, not just contributed to one. Demonstrated experience leading design reviews, guiding junior engineers, and making trade-off decisions under schedule and budget pressure separates strong candidates. A portfolio of delivered hardware or flight-qualified systems is the clearest signal that you are ready for this scope.
Which companies hire senior level propulsion engineers?
Companies hiring senior level propulsion engineers right now include Shield AI, Revolution Space, and Ursa Major Technologies, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a mix of established defense and aerospace primes, commercial launch and satellite companies, and government-adjacent contractors developing next-generation propulsion systems.
Are there remote senior level propulsion engineer jobs?
Yes, though most senior propulsion engineer roles still require significant on-site time given hands-on hardware and test requirements. About 0% of senior level propulsion engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with hybrid arrangements most common at companies where design work can be separated from test operations.
What makes a propulsion engineer role senior level?
Senior level propulsion engineer roles are defined by ownership and scope rather than task execution. Engineers at this stage set the technical direction for a propulsion system, make binding design decisions, lead concept-to-delivery efforts, and mentor mid-level and junior engineers on the team. They are accountable for system-level performance, reliability, and integration outcomes, and are expected to operate independently with minimal direction from management.
Which industries hire the most senior level propulsion engineers?
Senior level propulsion engineer roles concentrate in Aerospace & Defense, Retail, and Automotive, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive the most hiring because they combine significant R&D investment with active development programs that require experienced engineers to own propulsion systems from early design through testing and delivery.
