Are you a new or soon to be Registered Nurse with a desire to improve the well-being of Vermont's most vulnerable populations? The State of Vermont is currently hiring entry-level Registered Nurses within our Vermont Psychiatric Care Hospital in Berlin! This position is a great opportunity for new or soon to be Registered Nurses who would like to develop a specialty in behavioral health. Additional mentoring and oversight will be given in the course of your daily work.
As a Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for assessment, evaluation, and coordination of care and services to individuals experiencing psychiatric illnesses. Care and treatment may involve individuals with a variety of physical, emotional, mental and/or psychiatric disabilities. The Registered Nurse will also be responsible for developing individualized nursing care plans, administering prescribed treatments and medications, and collaboration with community health services and families.
This position is eligible for full retirement after 20 years of service in eligible positions in recognition of the challenges of front-line mental health work.
Although the full salary range for this position is provided, new hires are typically made at the salary range minimum.

Candidates, including current State employees seeking transfer, promotion, demotion, or persons exercising re-employment rights, must pass a fingerprint supported background investigation applicable to the position. Additionally, in accordance with AHS Policy 4.02 - Hiring Standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates. Hiring managers will notify applicants who are in the final stage of the interview process of the finger-printing and background check requirement, to which an applicant must agree to be deemed eligible for this position. Environmental Factors
Duties primarily performed in a clinical setting. Work may require travel off-site. Exposure to communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens, potentially physically and verbally violent patient population and other stressful situations may occur. May be required to work evenings, nights, weekends and extended shifts as the need arises.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of (or eligible for) licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Vermont OR eligible to practice in the state of Vermont via a multi-state license. OR In the final semester of an accredited school of nursing program. (Graduation from the program must occur prior to hire and continued employment will be contingent on the employee passing the Nursing Licensure Exam (NCLEX).
Special Requirements
Overtime work is required to maintain minimum staffing levels and for unannounced regulatory inspections and is considered a condition of employment. The ability to work overtime when required is an essential function of this job class.
NOTE: Must maintain Vermont or multi-state licensure as a Registered Nurse as a condition of employment.
