Quality Assurance Engineer Jobs in San Diego: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a quality assurance engineer job in San Diego?
Focus your search on San Diego's three strongest hiring pockets: defense and aerospace contractors in Kearny Mesa and Sorrento Valley, biotech and medtech companies along the Torrey Pines corridor, and software firms in UTC and downtown. Candidates who hold certifications like ISTQB or have hands-on automation experience with tools like Selenium or Jira stand out here. Networking through local tech and biotech meetups in San Diego can also surface roles before they are broadly posted.
Which companies hire quality assurance engineers in San Diego?
Employers hiring quality assurance engineers in San Diego right now include MENTOR TECHNICAL, Apple, and Chromalloy, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. San Diego's mix of defense contractors, medical device manufacturers, and high-growth software companies means QA roles appear across a wide range of organization sizes and product types.
Are there remote quality assurance engineer jobs in San Diego?
Yes, though availability depends on the role type. About 78% of quality assurance engineer openings tied to San Diego are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with the highest remote share in software QA and the lowest in medical device and defense work, where physical product testing requires on-site presence. Software automation and test strategy roles are the most consistently remote-friendly in the San Diego market.
How can I get a quality assurance engineer job in San Diego with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in San Diego is targeting QA analyst or junior test engineer roles at mid-size software and healthtech companies, which tend to hire candidates building toward a full QA engineer title. Contract and temp-to-hire positions through San Diego's defense and biotech sectors also provide a practical way in. A portfolio showing manual test cases, bug reports, or basic automation scripts gives you a concrete edge over other entry-level applicants.
Which industries hire the most quality assurance engineers in San Diego?
Most quality assurance engineer openings in San Diego sit in Medical Devices, Electronics & Hardware, and Biotechnology & Pharmaceuticals, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. San Diego's concentration of defense primes, FDA-regulated medtech companies, and VC-backed software firms creates consistent QA demand across all three sectors, each with distinct testing environments and compliance requirements.
