- Proficiency with at least one automation framework such as Selenium, Cypress, or Playwright

Tips for Your Quality Assurance Engineer Job Search
Tailor your resume to the stack
List the specific testing frameworks and tools you've used, such as Selenium, Cypress, Postman, or JIRA, under each role rather than in a generic skills section. Hiring managers scan for exact tool names that match their environment.
Quantify defects caught and coverage
Replace vague impact statements with metrics tied to quality outcomes: test coverage percentage you achieved, defect escape rates you reduced, or release cycles you helped accelerate. Numbers make QA contributions visible in a way that narrative descriptions don't.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists quality assurance engineer openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Filter openings by testing discipline
Automation QA, manual QA, and performance testing roles require different skill sets and attract different candidates. Search with discipline-specific terms so you're not competing for roles that don't match your background or applying to postings that misalign with what you can demonstrate.
Prepare a live demo or testing artifact
Many QA interviews now include a practical component where you write test cases on the spot or review a buggy build. Bring a sample test plan or automation script from a past project you can walk through if asked, even in early screening rounds.
Negotiate scope alongside compensation
In QA roles, scope matters as much as pay: clarify whether you own the full testing lifecycle or support a single team, and whether the role includes tool selection authority. These details shape career growth and should be part of your offer conversation.
Quality Assurance Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most quality assurance engineers?
The companies hiring the most quality assurance engineers right now include Food Lion, Cox Automotive, and United States Steel, with the largest share of openings in California, Texas, and North Carolina, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Demand is consistently strong in software product companies and regulated industries such as healthcare and financial services.
How many quality assurance engineer jobs are remote?
About 43% of quality assurance engineer openings are fully remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting steady demand for distributed QA talent. Automation engineers and those specializing in API or backend testing tend to find the highest share of remote-eligible roles, since their work is less dependent on physical hardware or on-site lab environments.
How do you become a quality assurance engineer?
Most quality assurance engineers start with a degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field, then build hands-on skills in manual testing before learning an automation framework. Earning a certification such as ISTQB Foundation strengthens your resume early on. Building a portfolio of sample test plans and automation scripts, even from personal or open-source projects, demonstrates practical ability to employers who care more about demonstrated skill than credentials alone.
Can you get a quality assurance engineer job with little experience?
Yes, entry-level quality assurance engineer roles are a real category, and many companies hire candidates who can demonstrate testing fundamentals even without extensive professional history. Focus on completing a course in manual testing or a specific automation framework, document any testing work you've done on personal projects or during coursework, and apply to roles explicitly labeled junior, associate, or entry-level to match where your experience actually sits.
What does the quality assurance engineer interview process look like?
Most quality assurance engineer interviews begin with a recruiter screen covering your background and tool experience, followed by a technical interview where you write test cases for a described scenario or walk through your approach to testing a specific feature. Later rounds often include a live coding or automation exercise and a team or hiring manager conversation focused on how you collaborate with developers and handle defect escalation under release pressure.
Where can I find and apply to quality assurance engineer jobs?
You can find and apply to quality assurance engineer jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States in one place. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience, specialization, and location preference, then apply directly to each one that fits.
