You will work closely with architects, business analysts, data specialists, DevSecOps engineers, testers, and PHIS subject matter experts to deliver maintainable, accessible, secure, and production-ready increments.
Essential Job Functions
- Design, develop, test, and maintain full-stack application capabilities using C#, Microsoft ASP.NET Core 8, PHIS shared services, and established PHIS engineering patterns.
- Modernize approved legacy Java and related ANET functionality into modular .NET services and PHIS portal components while preserving required business behavior, data, and audit history.

- Implement case-centric capabilities covering intake, enforcement actions and issuances, industry responses, evidence, verification plans, management review, routing, AER forms, timelines, and closure.
- Develop configurable workflow and notification services for approvals, returns, referrals, transfers, escalations, deadlines, reminders, reassignment, and close/reopen actions based on role hierarchy and business rules.
- Build the governed Issuance Template Engine, including reusable language blocks, dynamic placeholders, conditional logic, editable and locked content, action/reason mapping, versioning, rollback, preview, and finalization.
- Implement PDF and PDF/A generation using approved libraries such as Aspose.Total, including dynamic data, empty-field handling, batch printing, version comparison, manifests, and evidence packages.
- Implement secure evidence handling with bulk upload, file metadata, integrity hashing, chain-of-custody attributes, exhibit ordering, preview, linking, and case-owner review controls.
- Implement PHIS role-based access control, USDA eAuthentication and PIV/LincPass integration, secure session behavior, sensitive-action authorization, and immutable audit logging.
- Develop reliable record-locking and concurrency controls that display lock ownership, preserve authorized work, expire inactive locks, support supervisor release, and audit every lock event.
- Design and optimize application data access using Azure SQL Managed Instance, SQL Server, T-SQL, transactions, indexing, stored procedures where appropriate, and secure repository or ORM patterns.
- Use Azure services such as Azure Functions, Storage Accounts, Key Vault, App Configuration, Data Factory, and Azure Service Bus when approved by the PHIS architecture.
- Implement advanced search, saved search, filtering, CSV/PDF export, FOIA and eDiscovery packages, and service-based data exchange with analytics and reporting platforms.
- Create unit and integration tests and support Playwright end-to-end automation, regression, accessibility, security, performance, load, and user acceptance testing.
- Use Azure DevOps and Git for source control, pull requests, code review, build and release pipelines, traceability, configuration management, and controlled promotion across environments.
- Apply secure coding standards, dependency management, secrets protection, input validation, logging, error handling, encryption, and vulnerability remediation consistent with USDA and federal requirements.
- Diagnose and resolve defects and integration issues across application, API, database, messaging, identity, and infrastructure tiers during development, testing, deployment, and the warranty-support period.
- Produce and maintain technical designs, API specifications, configuration notes, source-code documentation, release notes, runbooks, operations materials, and knowledge-transfer content.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, estimate and refine backlog items, demonstrate completed work, mentor other developers, and collaborate with the Product Owner and testers to meet acceptance criteria.

Tips for Your Senior Fullstack Software Engineer Job Search
Tailor your resume to the stack
Hiring managers for senior fullstack roles scan for specific frameworks before reading anything else. List your primary frontend and backend technologies in a dedicated skills section near the top, and mirror the exact stack named in each job description throughout your bullet points.
Show system design decisions you owned
Generic bullet points about shipping features won't separate you from mid-level candidates. Describe architectural choices you made, the tradeoffs you weighed, and the scale or outcome that resulted. Senior fullstack hiring committees look for engineers who think beyond the ticket.
Target companies at your preferred growth stage
Your day-to-day changes dramatically between a Series A startup and a public company. Early-stage roles often require you to own the entire stack alone, while larger orgs have platform and DevOps teams. Decide which environment suits you before applying so your targeting stays focused.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists senior fullstack software engineer openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare a system design walkthrough before interviews
Most senior fullstack loops include a one-hour system design round. Practice designing a feature end-to-end out loud, covering API contracts, database schema, caching strategy, and frontend state management. Interviewers penalize candidates who jump to code without addressing scalability tradeoffs first.
Negotiate the full offer, not just base pay
Senior fullstack offers vary widely in equity vesting schedules, signing bonuses, and remote stipends. Before accepting, ask for the full breakdown in writing and compare total compensation across competing offers. Employers expect negotiation at this level and rarely rescind offers because a candidate asked.
Senior Fullstack Software Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most senior fullstack software engineers?
The companies hiring the most senior fullstack software engineers right now include Capital One, JPMorganChase, and SpaceX, with the largest share of openings in California, Virginia, and Texas, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Demand is strongest at SaaS companies, fintech platforms, and healthtech startups building consumer-facing products.
How many senior fullstack software engineer jobs are remote?
About 72% of senior fullstack software engineer openings are fully remote or hybrid as of September 2026, making it one of the more remote-accessible senior engineering roles. Positions focused on product-facing web applications and API development tend to be the most remote-friendly, while roles requiring close collaboration with hardware or on-site infrastructure are more likely to require in-person attendance.
How do you become a senior fullstack software engineer?
You become a senior fullstack software engineer by progressively taking ownership of larger, more ambiguous problems across the full stack. Build depth in at least one frontend framework and one backend runtime, then practice system design by architecting side projects at realistic scale. Seek opportunities to lead a feature end-to-end, mentor junior engineers, and participate in technical reviews. Most engineers reach the senior level after several years of consistent scope growth and demonstrated impact.
Can you get hired as a senior fullstack software engineer without extensive experience?
It is difficult but not impossible to land a senior fullstack role with limited experience if your portfolio compensates for your resume. Open-source contributions, a production side project with real users, or a contract engagement where you architected something independently can substitute for years of employment history. Some smaller companies also promote strong mid-level engineers into senior roles faster than larger organizations, so targeting growth-stage startups may improve your odds.
What does the senior fullstack software engineer interview process look like?
The senior fullstack software engineer interview process typically includes a recruiter screen, a take-home or live coding exercise focused on a realistic fullstack problem, a system design round where you architect a feature or service from scratch, and a behavioral round assessing leadership and cross-functional collaboration. Some companies also add a code review stage where you critique an existing codebase. The full loop usually takes several weeks from first contact to offer.
Where can I find and apply to senior fullstack software engineer jobs?
You can find and apply to senior fullstack software engineer jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States in one place. Search for roles that match your stack and experience level, then apply directly to each listing that fits. No external steps are required between finding a role and submitting your application.
