Candidates targeting government contractor roles should also obtain or be eligible for a security clearance, which significantly broadens access to the state's largest QA employers.
How much do quality assurance testers make in Virginia?
Quality assurance testers in Virginia earn a median of about $121,590 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $78,820 for the lowest 10% to over $169,200 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire quality assurance testers in Virginia?

Which Virginia cities have the most quality assurance tester jobs?
The Virginia cities with the most quality assurance tester openings are Chantilly, Herndon, and McLean. Large employers like Leidos and Booz Allen Hamilton periodically run early-career associate programs in the Northern Virginia market. Lateral moves from adjacent roles such as technical support analyst, business analyst, or software developer in test are also a common door in, particularly for candidates who can demonstrate scripting ability or familiarity with tools like Jira and Selenium through personal or academic projects.
