Tips for Your Quality Assurance Tester Job Search
Tailor your resume to testing types
Separate your manual and automation experience clearly on your resume. Hiring managers scan for specific tools like Selenium, JIRA, or TestRail, so list them in a dedicated skills section rather than burying them in job descriptions.
Highlight defect metrics from past roles
Quantify your impact by noting how many bugs you caught, how defect rates changed under your watch, or how release cycles improved. Concrete outcomes make QA candidates stand out against others who only list job duties.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists quality assurance tester openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Filter openings by testing methodology
Look for keywords like Agile, Scrum, or Waterfall in job listings and match them to your actual experience. Mismatched methodology backgrounds are one of the most common reasons QA candidates get screened out early.
Prepare for a live bug-finding exercise
Many QA interviews include a hands-on task where you test a sample app or document bugs in real time. Practice writing clear, reproducible bug reports with steps to replicate, expected behavior, and actual behavior before your interview.
Negotiate using test coverage scope
When discussing compensation, reference the scope of what you will own: regression suites, automation frameworks, or release sign-off authority. QA roles vary widely in responsibility, and framing your value around coverage scope strengthens your negotiating position.
Quality Assurance Tester Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most quality assurance testers?
The companies hiring the most quality assurance testers right now include Paradigm Infotech, Procom Services America, and Artech, with the largest share of openings in Texas, California, and Virginia, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is particularly concentrated at companies scaling software products or undergoing digital transformation initiatives.
How many quality assurance tester jobs are remote?
About 15% of quality assurance tester openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, making it one of the more flexible roles in tech hiring. Automation-focused and performance testing positions tend to attract the highest share of remote arrangements, while roles tied to hardware or on-site release environments are more likely to require in-person work.
How do you become a quality assurance tester?
Start by learning the fundamentals of software testing, including test case design, bug reporting, and the software development life cycle. Build hands-on skills with tools like Selenium or JIRA through personal projects or open-source contributions. A degree in a technical field helps, but a strong portfolio of documented test plans and defect logs carries significant weight with hiring managers.
Can you get hired as a quality assurance tester with little experience?
Yes, entry-level QA roles exist specifically for candidates without professional experience, particularly in manual testing. Build a portfolio by testing open-source applications, documenting bugs you find, and writing sample test cases. Employers hiring junior testers prioritize attention to detail, clear written communication, and a demonstrated ability to follow a structured testing process over years of experience.
What does the quality assurance tester interview process look like?
Most QA interviews include an initial recruiter screen, a technical interview covering testing concepts and methodology, and a practical exercise where you write test cases or identify bugs in a sample application. Some companies add a panel interview with developers or product managers to assess how you communicate defects and collaborate across teams during release cycles.
Where can I find and apply to quality assurance tester jobs?
You can find and apply to quality assurance tester jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience and testing specialization, then apply directly to each one that fits.
