Position Summary:
Under the direction of the department leadership, executes quality control testing strategies on Versiti's blood supply to ensure regulatory requirements are met and manufactures platelet products according to operational standards. Enhances existing procedures and services with quality that exceeds customer expectations. Demonstrates the ability to take initiative, drive productivity, and build a collaborative environment.
Shift: 2nd Shift. Work week consists of 4 days of 10 hours 4:00 PM to 2:30 AM. Rotating every 3rd weekend evening, overnight and weekend shift differentials.

The target salary is based on internal averages. Versiti sets salary ranges aligned to local markets in which the job is performed. Compensation decisions take into account internal salary averages and differentiation based on education, experience, skills, and performance. Specific salary and benefits information is shared at the time of the phone screening based on your location and qualifications.

Responsibilities:
- Understands and performs laboratory activities to all applicable regulatory and compliance requirements
- Performs and evaluates quality control testing on blood products using hematology analyzers, pH meters, and WBC counting technologies
- Performs blood product manufacturing on RBCs and PLTs
- Maintains equipment by performing daily quality control and preventative maintenance
- Performs testing on proficiency testing for CAP surveys
- Labels blood products according to regulatory requirements
- Accessions and packs blood donor sample tubes for infectious disease testing where applicable
- Performs reconciliations, lot release and client sample release of infectious disease testing
- Performs pathogen reduction production process on blood products, as applicable
- Performs donor antigen testing and antibody titrations, as applicable
- Conducts validation procedures to qualify new production processes
- Assists in annual revisions of procedures
- Supports trainers by coordinating and maintaining staff training and competencies
- Maintains competencies in required tasks in Core Production and/or Hospital Services
- Maintains equipment reagent inventory levels for daily laboratory operations
- Delegates, monitors and motivates team members
- Works in partnership with Leads and Supervisor to improve communication between management and employees
- Works weekend, holiday rotations and on-call, as needed
- Other duties, as assigned
- Complies with all policies and standards
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Bachelor's Degree in biology or related science preferred
Associate's Degree in a chemical, physical or biological science or medical laboratory technology or other experience may be accepted by management required
Experience
1-3 years 1+ year of related work experience in a health care setting preferred

- Ability to read and interpret Standard Operating Procedures, maintenance instructions, and other department manuals required
- Above average attention to detail and problem-solving skills required
- Demonstrates sensitivity and seeks to understand customers’ perspective required
- Ability to adjust work activities based on volume, priorities, and interruptions required
- Flexibility to work independently and across the department required
- Accountable to key performance indicators and department goals required

- General office equipment (computer, printer, fax, copy machine) required
- Computer (desk top, lap top, tablet) required
- Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) required
- Software systems (Blood Establishment Computer Systems, Title 21) required
- Lab specific equipment, including, but not limited to:
- Pipettes, Centrifuges, scales, tube sealers, welders
- Freezers, refrigerators
- Sysmex, ADAM, ABx, BacT/Alert, BDFACS Calibur required
