Registered Dental Assistant Jobs in New Jersey: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a registered dental assistant in New Jersey?
To work as a registered dental assistant in New Jersey, you must register with the New Jersey State Board of Dentistry, which requires completing an accredited dental assisting program or meeting equivalent experience qualifications. New Jersey also requires a separate radiography certification before you can independently expose dental X-rays. Most candidates complete a certificate or associate degree program at a New Jersey community college or vocational school before applying for registration.
Which companies hire registered dental assistants in New Jersey?
New Jersey registered dental assistant roles are posted by ProSmile, The Smilist Dental, and Hopewell smile and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. New Jersey's dense population and high concentration of both private practices and multi-site dental groups means consistent hiring from large regional operators and hospital-affiliated dental departments alike.
Which New Jersey cities have the most registered dental assistant jobs?
Toms River, Clifton, and Freehold have the most registered dental assistant openings in New Jersey right now. Demand in those areas is driven by the state's densely populated urban and suburban corridors, where large multi-site dental groups, academic medical centers with dental affiliates, and high patient-volume private practices maintain year-round staffing needs.
Are there remote registered dental assistant jobs in New Jersey?
Yes, but they're rare. Registered dental assisting is a hands-on clinical role that requires direct patient contact, so remote work is not a realistic option for the core position. About 0% of registered dental assistant openings tied to New Jersey are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those tend to be administrative or dental coordinator hybrid roles adjacent to assisting rather than true chairside positions.
How can I get hired as a registered dental assistant in New Jersey with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is completing an accredited dental assisting program at a New Jersey community college, such as Bergen Community College or Middlesex College, which include clinical externships that frequently lead to direct hires. Large group practices like Aspen Dental and Dental Care Alliance in New Jersey regularly hire new graduates into training roles. Candidates with a sterilization technician or dental receptionist background also transition into chairside assisting roles more easily, especially when they already hold their New Jersey radiography certification.
Where can I find and apply to registered dental assistant jobs in New Jersey?
You can find and apply to registered dental assistant jobs in New Jersey on Migrate Mate, which lists current New Jersey openings from dental practices, group operators, and health system employers across the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience and credentials, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
