Tips for Your Registered Dental Assistant Job Search
Highlight your state RDA credentials clearly
Dental practices scan for licensure fast, so list your RDA certificate, X-ray certification, and CPR credentials at the top of your resume under a dedicated licenses section. Burying them in a summary paragraph costs you callbacks from practices with strict credentialing requirements.
Tailor your resume to specialty settings
An orthodontic office prioritizes bracket placement and Invisalign scanning experience, while an oral surgery practice cares more about surgical tray setup and post-op monitoring. Match the language in your bullet points to the specialty listed in each job posting.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists registered dental assistant openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Target multi-location group practices strategically
Dental service organizations and group practices often post openings at specific locations while also hiring for float or per-diem coverage. Applying to both the location-specific role and any listed float position doubles your chances with the same employer.
Prepare hands-on scenario answers for interviews
Interviewers at dental offices routinely ask you to walk through how you handle a patient who is anxious during an impression or an equipment failure mid-procedure. Rehearse two or three specific scenarios from your clinical experience with clear actions and outcomes.
Follow up with a clinical detail from your interview
A thank-you note that references a specific procedure or patient workflow you discussed, such as the practice's impression technique or sterilization protocol, signals genuine interest and helps the dentist or office manager remember you over other candidates.
Registered Dental Assistant Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most registered dental assistants?
The companies hiring the most registered dental assistants right now include Rodeo Dental & Orthodontics, Family HealthCare Network, and Axpm Dental Management, with the largest share of openings in California, Texas, and Arkansas, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Multi-location dental service organizations and large group practices account for a significant portion of active postings nationwide.
How many registered dental assistant jobs are remote?
About 0% of registered dental assistant openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting that most RDA duties require in-person clinical work. The roles most likely to include remote components are dental insurance coordination, patient scheduling, or treatment planning support positions attached to administrative functions within a dental group.
How do you become a registered dental assistant?
You become a registered dental assistant by completing an accredited dental assisting program, passing your state's required written and practical examinations, and obtaining any additional certifications your state mandates, such as radiography or coronal polishing. Requirements differ by state, so confirm the specific steps with your state dental board before enrolling in a program.
Can you get hired as a registered dental assistant with little experience?
Yes, many dental practices hire registered dental assistants who have recently completed their accredited program and hold the required state credentials, even without years of paid clinical experience. Externship hours completed during your training program are legitimate experience to list. Targeting smaller private practices or offices actively advertising entry-level or new-grad openings improves your chances considerably.
What does the registered dental assistant interview process look like?
Most registered dental assistant interviews begin with a phone or video screening focused on your credentials and availability, followed by an in-person interview with the dentist or office manager that includes clinical scenario questions and a tour of the operatory. Some practices ask candidates to complete a hands-on skills demonstration or shadow for a half-day before a final offer is extended.
Where can I find and apply to registered dental assistant jobs?
You can find and apply to registered dental assistant jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from dental practices, group offices, and specialty clinics across the United States. Find roles that match your credentials and location, then apply directly to each listing from the page.
