Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU position requiring 2 years of high-acuity PICU experience and a NC or compact RN license.

Details

• Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center within a 247-bed teaching hospital with Chest Pain Center and Certified Stroke Center designations
• 24-bed PICU with average patient census of 21-23
• Patient population includes respiratory, trauma (including penetrating and non-accidental trauma), DKA, seizures, neurosurgical, acute/chronic renal failure, orthopedic, surgical, transplant (kidney and liver), complex medical, and blood disorder cases
• RN to patient ratios vary by acuity: 2:1, 1:1, or 1:2
• 12-hour day shifts from 0645-1915, 36 hours per week
• Weekend rotation requires working 2 Fridays, 2 Saturdays, 2 Sundays, and 2 Mondays every 6-week schedule, which may be grouped or worked separately
• No on-call requirements; if PICU census doesn't require staffing, travelers may float to PCVICU, Peds Progressive, NICU, or general Peds units
• Floating required as needed to Pediatric CVICU, NICU, Neonatal PCU, and General Peds
• Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris and Medfusion syringe pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
• Specialized equipment includes Belmont Rapid Infuser, Accuvein, PIV Ultrasound, Artic Sun, Camino ICP/temp monitoring device, EV-1000 Vigileo, I-stat, and Accuryn
• Centralized and bedside monitoring with no dedicated telemetry tech

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) currently in hand
• Current certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
• Minimum 2 years of strong, high-acuity Pediatric ICU experience required, with comfort in a fast-paced critical care environment
• Minimum 12 months of core work experience in the specialty area with most recent experience within the last year
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Skills required include management of critical care vasoactive drip titration, invasive lines (ART lines/CVP), ventilator and trach management, HFOV management, CRRT, chest tubes, epidurals, PCAs, sedation/analgesic drip management, Foley insertion/management, and bedside procedures with providers
• Experience with Artic Sun, EVDs, Camino device, and Belmont Rapid Infuser required
• Competency to float to Pediatric CVICU may be discussed during interview
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within one year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care in a high-acuity Pediatric ICU setting including complex medical, surgical, and transplant cases
• Unit support includes 24/7 charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy, and intensivist coverage, plus in-house residents and APPs
• One CNA/Health Care Tech per day supports unit secretary duties and nursing needs, with unit secretary coverage every shift
• Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) and 2 days of departmental orientation
• Holiday expectations require working 75% of holidays, with unit requirement of working the eve and day of every other holiday while contracted
• RTO requests are subject to manager approval
• Navy scrub color required
