Registered Nurse Jobs in Richmond: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a registered nurse job in Richmond?
Focus your search on Richmond's major health systems, which anchor hiring across acute care, surgical, and outpatient settings in the Medical College of Virginia district, Henrico County, and the west end. Candidates with ICU, med-surg, or emergency department experience are in the strongest position. Picking up per-diem or PRN shifts at a Richmond facility is also a reliable way to convert to a permanent role once you've established a fit with the team.
Which companies hire registered nurses in Richmond?
Companies currently hiring registered nurses in Richmond include Henrico Doctors' Hospital, VCU Health System, and Chippenham Hospital, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Richmond's hiring is driven by large academic medical centers, regional hospital networks, and a growing number of outpatient surgery centers and home health agencies serving the metro area.
Are there remote registered nurse jobs in Richmond?
Yes, but only in a narrow range of specialties, since most registered nurse roles require direct patient contact at a clinical site. About 11% of registered nurse openings tied to Richmond are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting limited but real opportunities. The roles most likely to be fully remote in Richmond are telephone triage, case management, utilization review, and insurance pre-authorization positions.
How can I get a registered nurse job in Richmond with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Richmond is a new-graduate residency program, which several of the city's larger hospital systems run on a rolling or cohort basis to onboard and train new nurses in med-surg and step-down units. Community hospitals in Henrico and Chesterfield counties also tend to be more open to new graduates than the busiest trauma centers. Completing a clinical rotation at a Richmond facility during nursing school significantly improves your chances of landing a job offer there after graduation.
Which industries hire the most registered nurses in Richmond?
Richmond registered nurse roles concentrate in Healthcare & Medical Services and Insurance, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Richmond's status as a regional medical hub, anchored by a major academic health system and a dense network of outpatient and specialty clinics, keeps demand across those sectors consistently high.
