Regulatory Affairs Associate Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a regulatory affairs associate in California?
Most California employers require a bachelor's degree in a life science, pharmacy, or engineering discipline as the entry point. California does not issue a state-specific regulatory affairs license, but many hiring managers expect or prefer the RAC credential awarded by the Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society. Candidates typically begin in quality assurance, clinical operations, or document control roles at biotech or medical device companies before moving into a dedicated regulatory associate position.
How much do regulatory affairs associates make in California?
Regulatory affairs associates in California earn a median of about $96,980 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $57,530 for the lowest 10% to over $158,280 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire regulatory affairs associates in California?
Employers hiring regulatory affairs associates in California right now include Revolution Medicines, Evalve, and Ionian Technologies, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's dense concentration of FDA-regulated biotech, pharmaceutical, and medical device companies means consistent year-round demand across both large corporations and growth-stage companies in the San Francisco Bay Area and San Diego corridors.
Which California cities have the most regulatory affairs associate jobs?
Redwood City, Alameda, and Irvine have the most regulatory affairs associate openings in California. The Bay Area leads because it anchors the state's biotech cluster, with South San Francisco serving as a hub for major biologics manufacturers, while San Diego's medical device and genomics industries sustain strong hiring, and Los Angeles draws demand from its pharmaceutical and consumer health companies.
Are there remote regulatory affairs associate jobs in California?
Yes, and more than many scientific roles, since much of the work involves document review, submission preparation, and agency correspondence rather than lab work. About 8% of regulatory affairs associate openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the desk-based nature of many submission and compliance tasks. Roles focused on labeling, eCTD publishing, and regulatory writing tend to offer the most location flexibility.
How can I get hired as a regulatory affairs associate in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting in a quality assurance, clinical data, or document control role at a California biotech or medical device company and transitioning internally. Large California employers such as Gilead Sciences and Medtronic run associate development programs and regularly hire new graduates into regulatory operations support roles. Earning the RAC-US credential through the Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society and completing an internship at an FDA-regulated facility gives candidates a measurable edge over applicants without direct experience.
Where can I find and apply to regulatory affairs associate jobs in California?
You can find and apply to regulatory affairs associate jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings across biotech, pharmaceutical, and medical device employers. Find the roles that fit your experience and location and apply directly.
