About Affect
Affect is transforming behavioral health care by combining mobile technology with counseling and medical services to deliver 100% virtual, evidence-based treatment. Our mission is to break down barriers to care—making treatment more accessible, engaging, and effective for our members.

About the Role
As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) at Affect, you'll play a key role in leading member care alongside a collaborative team of counselors, therapists, peer support specialists, and case managers.
You'll provide evidence-based treatment for individuals navigating substance use and mental health disorders in a fully virtual environment.
Affect specializes in substance-specific care. We prescribe Suboxone for Opioid Use Disorder and do not prescribe other controlled substances. While we provide extensive training in our treatment approach, clinical decisions remain at the provider's discretion in collaboration with the member.
For full-time roles, we are specifically seeking providers who are particularly strong on the mental health side. While experience with substance use disorder treatment and Suboxone prescribing is important, this role requires confidence in assessing and managing more complex mental health conditions.
You must hold an active, unrestricted license in New Mexico.

Key Responsibilities
Conduct initial and follow-up telehealth evaluations
Provide care for both substance use and mental health conditions

Complete timely documentation in our EHR (Healthie)
Collaborate with your care team and participate in scheduled team meetings
Requirements
Active, unrestricted PMHNP license in New Mexico (Medicaid enrollment a plus)
Active license in your state of residence if different from New Mexico
Minimum of 2 years of experience (addiction or mental health preferred; strong candidates with less experience considered)
Experience prescribing Suboxone and an active DEA registration
Willingness to obtain additional state licenses (covered by Affect)

Tips for Your Remote Addiction Therapist Job Search
Tailor your resume to licensure requirements
Addiction therapist postings often specify required licensure by state, such as LCDC, CADC, or LPC with substance use focus. List your active licenses prominently at the top of your resume, including the issuing state, so hiring managers can confirm eligibility without digging.
Highlight your modality training specifically
Employers screen for named clinical approaches like Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for substance use, or EMDR for trauma-informed care. Name each modality you are trained in and note any formal certification or supervised hours completed, not just general experience.
Target settings that match your clinical goals
Inpatient detox units, outpatient intensive programs, medication-assisted treatment clinics, and correctional facilities each have distinct caseloads and documentation demands. Filter openings by setting type so you apply where your experience and preferred client population genuinely align.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists addiction therapist openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare for competency-based interview questions
Addiction therapist interviews frequently test your clinical judgment through case vignettes, asking how you would handle a client in active crisis or resistant to treatment. Practice concrete, scenario-based answers that reference your actual clinical framework rather than general counseling principles.
Negotiate your supervision arrangement upfront
If you are working toward full licensure, clarify before accepting an offer whether clinical supervision hours are provided on-site, who the approved supervisor is, and how frequently sessions occur. This affects how quickly you can reach independent licensure and should be discussed before you sign.
Remote Addiction Therapist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a remote addiction therapist job?
Target companies that already run distributed teams, since they hire remotely by default and know how to onboard someone they never meet in person. Remote addiction therapist employers screen hard for self-direction and clear written communication on top of the core skills, so show evidence you can own work without someone over your shoulder. Apply to the openings above that match your experience.
Which companies hire remote addiction therapists?
Companies hiring remote addiction therapists include Boulder Care, Grata Health, and Affect Therapeutics, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Remote-first firms and large companies running distributed teams post the most remote addiction therapist roles.
Can you get a remote addiction therapist job with no experience?
Yes, but it is harder than an on-site role, because remote work expects you to operate independently from the start. Entry-level remote addiction therapist openings do exist, especially at remote-first companies, and a portfolio of real work helps more than a long resume. Applying broadly to the roles that fit improves your odds.
Do you need a degree for remote addiction therapist jobs?
Not always. Many employers hire remote addiction therapists on demonstrated skills and prior work rather than a specific degree, though some larger companies still prefer one. Showing relevant results matters more than a credential for most remote addiction therapist roles.
