Tips for Your Remote Attorney Job Search
Tailor your resume to practice area
Litigation and transactional roles demand different skills on paper. Highlight courtroom experience, motion practice, and trial prep for litigation roles, and emphasize deal closings, contract drafting, and due diligence for corporate or transactional positions.
Flag your bar admissions clearly
List every state where you're admitted to practice, right at the top of your resume. Many employers filter candidates by jurisdiction before reading anything else, so burying your bar admissions in a footnote costs you interviews.
Target openings that match your deal or case volume
Job postings often signal workload through language like 'fast-paced,' 'high-volume,' or 'complex matters.' Match your application materials to that language using concrete examples from your own caseload or transaction history.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists attorney openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare for technical legal interview questions
Interviewers for attorney roles routinely ask you to walk through how you'd handle a specific motion, draft a clause, or analyze a fact pattern. Rehearse out loud using real examples from your practice rather than abstract explanations of legal concepts.
Negotiate offer terms beyond base salary
Attorney offers include variables like billable-hour targets, origination credit policies, partnership track timelines, and CLE reimbursement. Ask about each one directly during offer conversations, since these terms affect your day-to-day work and long-term trajectory.
Remote Attorney Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a remote attorney job?
Target companies that already run distributed teams, since they hire remotely by default and know how to onboard someone they never meet in person. Remote attorney employers screen hard for self-direction and clear written communication on top of the core skills, so show evidence you can own work without someone over your shoulder. Apply to the openings above that match your experience.
Which companies hire remote attorneys?
Remote attorney roles are posted by Jobot, Law Offices of Robert S. Gitmeid & Associates, and Strategic Legal Practices and others right now, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Remote-first firms and large companies running distributed teams post the most remote attorney roles.
Can you get a remote attorney job with no experience?
Yes, but it is harder than an on-site role, because remote work expects you to operate independently from the start. Entry-level remote attorney openings do exist, especially at remote-first companies, and a portfolio of real work helps more than a long resume. Applying broadly to the roles that fit improves your odds.
Do you need a degree for remote attorney jobs?
Not always. Many employers hire remote attorneys on demonstrated skills and prior work rather than a specific degree, though some larger companies still prefer one. Showing relevant results matters more than a credential for most remote attorney roles.
Which industries hire the most remote attorneys?
Most remote attorney openings sit in Law & Legal Services, Insurance, and Staffing & Recruiting, per current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. These sectors run distributed teams and hire attorneys remotely most consistently.
