Description
The Video Podcast Editor (Contract) is an independent contractor role supporting end-to-end post-production for the myPlanMember podcast — a video podcast produced by PlanMember Marketing — and related video and audio content.
We are looking for a technically skilled, brand-aware, and reliable video editor who is comfortable in a fully remote, multi-participant recording environment. The editor will produce publish-ready video episodes and short-form video clips and will serve as a backup operator for live-switched recording sessions as PlanMember migrates production from StreamYard to vMix.
PlanMember produces the myPlanMember podcast as a fully remote recording: the producer is based in California, the two hosts record from separate setups in New York, and guests join from various locations.
The team currently records in StreamYard (with comparable platforms such as Descript and Riverside) and is in the process of migrating production to vMix with NDI-based workflows. This position reports directly to the Producer of the myPlanMember podcast.
Responsibilities
POST-PRODUCTION EDITING
- Edit podcast episodes (audio and video) from raw recordings to publish-ready files using Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Audition, and Adobe After Effects
- Perform color correction, audio mixing, leveling, and noise reduction across multi-participant remote recordings
- Add graphics, lower thirds, intros, outros, and branded elements per PlanMember style guidelines
- Cut short-form clips and trailers from long-form episodes for social media and marketing use
LIVE PRODUCTION SUPPORT
- Operate vMix as backup or relief technical director for live-switched recording sessions, including managing NDI-based camera and audio feeds during production
- Support the ongoing migration of production from StreamYard to vMix, including building and maintaining show templates, overlays, and scene presets
PROJECT COORDINATION AND DELIVERY
- Manage project files, naming conventions, version control, and final deliverables
- Coordinate with the internal team on revisions, feedback, and approvals through Frame.io
- Meet agreed-upon turnaround times for each episode and project
- Support additional content, marketing, and ad-hoc production projects as assigned
Additional Job Duties:
- This is a fully remote, independent contractor position open to qualified candidates anywhere in the United States.
- Each video podcast episode is estimated to require approximately 4 to 6 hours of editor time. Expected workload is variable, averaging up to 20 hours per month. across podcast episodes plus additional short-form video clips, revisions, live-production support, and ad-hoc projects.
- The engagement is ongoing, with the ability to scale up or down based on production needs.
- The editor will supply their own primary workstation and software. Because vMix is Windows-only, a Windows-based workstation is required to support live-switching backup duties.
- An active Adobe Creative Cloud subscription (Premiere Pro, Audition, and After Effects) is required.
- PlanMember will supply the licensed vMix live-production environment. Project files are exchanged via Frame.io.
Qualifications
Competencies Required:
- Attention to detail and consistent application of brand standards
- Effective time management: ability to meet established deadlines with minimal supervision
- Reliable communicator: comfortable with email and Microsoft Teams
- Accountability: takes ownership of projects from raw recording to final delivery
Education
- Two+ years of professional video and audio editing experience
- Demonstrated experience editing branded podcasts or long-form video content
- Portfolio or reel of relevant work required
- Required proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere Pro, Audition, and After Effects)
- Experience with vMix and NDI-based live production workflows, or comparable software (e.g., OBS Studio, Wirecast, ATEM / Blackmagic, TriCaster)
- Familiarity with remote recording platforms such as StreamYard, Descript, or Riverside
- Strong skills in color correction, sound design, and on-brand graphics treatment
- Comfortable working with multi-participant remote recordings and the resulting separate track files per participant
- Familiarity with Frame.io for collaborative review, feedback, and file delivery

Tips for Your Remote Editor Job Search
Show async editing skills in your portfolio
Remote editors collaborate almost entirely through written feedback, comments, and tracked changes. Include samples that show structured editorial notes, revision letters, or style guide annotations so hiring managers can see exactly how you communicate edits without a meeting.
Apply early to remote roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists remote editor openings from across the U.S. in one place, so you can find roles that match your background and apply directly without sorting through listings that aren't actually remote.
Highlight remote-ready tools in your materials
Call out the specific tools you use daily: content management systems, project trackers, shared document platforms, and editorial calendars. Remote teams want to know you can plug into their workflow from day one without a setup period.
Target distributed teams with content at their core
Remote editor roles are most stable at companies where content drives the product, not just supports marketing. Remote-first SaaS companies, digital publishers, and e-learning platforms tend to have dedicated editorial headcount rather than treating editing as an occasional task.
Remote Editor Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a remote editor job?
Focus on companies that operate as remote-first or fully distributed, since they build their editorial workflows around async collaboration from the start. Remote editors are screened heavily on written communication, the ability to give clear feedback without a call, and self-directed project management. A portfolio that shows published work across multiple formats, plus experience with shared editing tools like Google Docs or a content management system, gives you a concrete edge.
Which companies hire remote editors?
Employers currently hiring remote editors include Village Media, Thomson Reuters, and Black & White Zebra, per current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Remote editor roles appear across remote-first media companies, distributed SaaS and technology firms, digital education platforms, and healthcare content teams that maintain editorial staff without a central office.
Can you get a remote editor job with no experience?
Yes, but remote entry-level editor roles are harder to land because employers expect you to work independently from day one without in-person mentorship. Your best path is freelance editing, a published portfolio from volunteer or personal projects, or demonstrated work with a student or independent publication. Remote-first content startups and digital media companies are the most likely to consider candidates who show strong instincts and clear written samples over formal experience.
Do you need a degree for remote editor jobs?
Not always. Many remote employers weigh a strong editing portfolio, demonstrated command of style guides, and consistent published credits more heavily than a degree. That said, roles at academic publishers, technical documentation teams, and some healthcare content organizations do list a degree in English, communications, or a related field as a baseline requirement, so it depends on the sector you're targeting.
Which industries hire the most remote editors?
Remote editor roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Consulting & Professional Services, and Retail, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Those sectors hire editors remotely because their content output is high-volume and ongoing, making distributed editorial teams a practical and cost-effective structure.
