Forward Deployed Software Engineer
About Convr: Convr is an AI underwriting, data, and intelligent document automation workbench built for commercial P&C insurers. We help carriers, MGAs, and brokers accelerate premium growth, improve risk insights, and drive operational efficiency. Founded in 2016, Convr transforms outdated, manual processes into structured, decision-ready workflows. Our modular platform manages underwriting from submission through quote with a purpose-built AI decisioning context engine – grounded in a commercial insurance ontology – ensuring complete data and smarter decisions, faster, while enabling a frictionless experience and superior performance. As we scale, we’re building a team shaping the future of commercial underwriting. Join us in modernizing commercial insurance with modern AI.
Role Overview: We are looking for a Forward Deployed Software Engineer (FDSE) who thrives at the intersection of high-level architecture and deep-stack technical execution. This isn't a "one-off" integration role. You are a hybrid of a software engineer, product strategist, and technical consultant.
You will embed with our most strategic customers to solve their most complex problems. However, your mission is dual-purpose: while you deliver immediate value to the customer, you are simultaneously acting as a product scout. You will identify patterns in customer needs and translate those into scalable, core features for our SaaS platform.
What You'll be Doing:
- Lead the design and implementation of new features in our core SaaS product. You aren't just building for one user; you are building for the platform.
- Work across the entire stack, from optimizing database queries and API endpoints to crafting intuitive UI/UX.
- Architect production-ready integrations and workflows. You will lead technical workshops with stakeholders to define "future state" solutions.
- Write high-quality, type-safe, and maintainable code in TypeScript, leveraging modern React and Next.js patterns for performance and scalability.
- Prevent "bespoke bloat." Identify universal customer needs and collaborate with product and engineering teams to bake those into the core technical direction.
- Contribute to CI/CD, testing, and performance monitoring to ensure the stability and reliability of your deployments.
- Mentor teammates and establish engineering best practices to level up the entire team’s output.
Who You Are:
- You think in terms of scalability. When you build a solution for one customer, you’re already thinking about how it could benefit the next ten.
- You take 100% ownership of the success of your deployments. You don't wait for a ticket; you find the bottleneck and fix it.
- You are as comfortable whiteboarding a system diagram for a CTO as you are submitting a pull request for a mission-critical API endpoint.
Experience Requirements:
- 10+ years of professional experience in full-stack or frontend development, specifically within SaaS products or startup environments.
- Strong coder with shown proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, Java, C++, or similar.
- Strong experience in Commercial P&C Insurance and understanding of the underwriting lifecycle (submission through quote)
- Hands-on experience with Next.js App Router (server components, layouts, streaming, caching).
- Experience with tRPC or equivalent type-safe API frameworks.
- Experience implementing complex, data-heavy views with Tailwind and component libraries (shadcn/ui, Mantine, etc.). Background in UI/UX design or working closely with designers is highly preferred.
- Ability to design scalable systems and a solid understanding of frontend performance, state management, and accessibility.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work autonomously, acting as a consultant/partner to our customers while remaining accountable for deliverables.
- Ability and interest to travel up to 20% as needed to customer sites.
Benefits & Compensation
- Remote work
- Flexible Paid Time Off
- Company Paid Holidays
- Insurance Coverage (medical, dental, vision, short-term & long-term disability, life insurance, and accident coverage)
- 401K
- Paid Parental Leave
Why Join Convr? Joining our team means becoming a vital part of a high-growth, entrepreneurial mission to redefine the commercial insurance industry. We’ve traded corporate silos for radical transparency and a shared ownership mentality, ensuring that every voice is heard, and no one is just a number. We believe in the power of flexibility because we know life happens, and we empower our people with the autonomy to maintain a genuine work-life balance. As a team of experts striving for excellence, we will challenge you to develop your career and sharpen your craft alongside passionate colleagues who are committed to your success as they are to our collective impact.

Tips for Your Remote Forward Deployed Software Engineer Job Search
Apply early to remote roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists remote forward deployed software engineer openings from across the U.S. in one place. Search roles by fit, apply directly, and move before postings close. Remote roles with clear requirements fill faster than you'd expect.
Show async communication skills upfront
Remote forward deployed roles require you to coordinate with distributed clients and internal teams entirely through written channels. Include examples of written technical documentation, async handoff notes, or client-facing incident summaries in your application materials to prove you can operate this way.
Document deployment and integration work concretely
Remote employers can't watch you work, so your portfolio needs to do it for them. Capture integration projects, client environment setups, and production deployments with measurable outcomes. A GitHub repo or case study that shows a real deployment lifecycle is more persuasive than a job title alone.
Prepare for remote-first technical interviews
Remote forward deployed interviews typically include async take-home exercises and live debugging sessions conducted over video with screen sharing. Practice articulating your thought process out loud while coding, because remote interviewers weight communication during technical problems as heavily as the solution itself.
Remote Forward Deployed Software Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a remote forward deployed software engineer job?
Target remote-first companies and distributed engineering teams that embed engineers in client environments without requiring on-site presence, which is most common in enterprise software, defense tech, and AI infrastructure. Remote employers screen hard for self-direction, clear async written communication, and the ability to troubleshoot independently in customer-facing situations. A portfolio showing real deployment work, integration projects, or client-side problem solving gives you a concrete edge over candidates with equivalent credentials.
Which companies hire remote forward deployed software engineers?
Companies hiring remote forward deployed software engineers right now include Eliza, Provectus, and Cresta, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Remote-first firms and distributed teams across enterprise software, defense tech, and AI infrastructure are the most consistent employers of this role.
Can you get a remote forward deployed software engineer job with no experience?
Yes, but remote entry-level roles are harder to land because you must operate independently from day one without the informal support of an office. Companies most likely to hire entry-level remote candidates are smaller remote-first startups that value raw technical ability. Demonstrating async communication skills, open-source contributions, or documented integration projects can substitute for formal experience and opens doors that a blank resume alone would not.
Do you need a degree for remote forward deployed software engineer jobs?
Not always. Remote employers for this role weigh demonstrated technical ability, client-facing communication skills, and a history of shipping real solutions more heavily than a diploma. Candidates who can show documented deployment work, integrations, or customer-environment problem solving often advance past degree requirements, particularly at remote-first firms that evaluate engineers on output rather than credentials.
Which industries hire the most remote forward deployed software engineers?
The sectors hiring the most remote forward deployed software engineers are Technology & Software, Consulting & Professional Services, and Science & Research, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. These sectors rely on distributed teams that embed engineers in customer environments without requiring engineers to relocate.
