Location & Flexibility
Our Director & Practice Lead, Platform Engineering, will operate remotely in Canada OR be based out of either our Toronto, ON or Vancouver, BC office locations.
The Opportunity
TELUS Digital's Data, AI & Cloud (DAIC) practice is the multidisciplinary engine behind enterprise AI, blending boutique innovation with the breadth of a global services portfolio to help organizations architect, scale, and secure their transformations. Spanning our full family of specialized capabilities, the DAIC practice delivers end-to-end solutions across AI Advisory, AI Solutions, Data & AI Platforms, and Cloud Transformation.
As a premier Google Cloud partner, our Cloud practice is at the forefront of helping enterprises adopt and scale on Google Cloud infrastructure: delivering complex engineering, deployment, and migration programs for some of the largest organizations in Canada and beyond.
The Director & Practice Lead, Platform Engineering will define and own the Platform Engineering Practice along with its market strategy, P&L, talent, and delivery quality. This is a senior leadership role for someone who has built engineering practices before, thinks in terms of market positioning, and earns credibility with enterprise C-suites through depth, not title. You will shape how we help clients navigate cloud adoption and digital transformation at scale.
This role will have four core anchor responsibilities:
Commercial Strategy: Define the multi-year practice vision and align technical capabilities to market demand. Market this vision and strategy to commercial teams and sellers at TELUS Digital to drive new business to the practice. Engage in business development activities that help to source pipeline and achieve revenue targets.
P&L: Own revenue targets, margin, and growth while being accountable for the practice's commercial performance.
Talent & Culture: Build a practice where engineering excellence and continuous learning are the default.
Client Impact: Serve as a strategic advisor to enterprise CxOs navigating complex transformation programmes.
Responsibilities
Set the long-term technical vision for the practice, connecting capability-building to real market demand for cloud and digital transformation.
Own the full P&L, including pricing and pipeline to delivery margin and revenue growth, and report directly to executive leadership.
Build and maintain senior relationships with channel partner teams such as Google Cloud and enterprise client executives to generate and win meaningful deal flow.
Drive investment in IP, accelerators, and reusable assets that support the commercial group and the sale of practice services, as well as improve delivery speed and protect margins at scale.
Actively scout and champion emerging technologies and methodologies, and simultaneously make evidence-based bets that keep the practice ahead of the market.
Partner with clients' C-suite executives as a trusted advisor, helping them navigate cloud adoption decisions, vendor strategy, and organisational change.
Lead by example on engineering culture: set the bar for quality, create space for learning, and build teams that clients want to work with again.
Competencies
12+ years in technology consulting. Including at least 3–5 years in an executive or practice leadership role, not just senior individual contribution.
Proven P&L ownership: Direct experience managing revenue, margin, and growth targets in a consulting or professional services context.
Cloud ecosystem depth: Strong command of cloud-native architecture, enterprise IT strategy, and the competitive landscape across major cloud providers.
Executive communication: Comfortable owning C-suite relationships as evidenced by your ability to challenge, advise, and build trust at the highest levels of client organizations.
Business Development track record: Experience generating pipeline and closing complex, multi-stakeholder consulting engagements, not just delivery.
Talent leadership: Has hired, developed, and retained senior engineering and consulting talent in a practice or delivery organisation.

Tips for Your Remote Platform Engineering Lead Job Search
Apply early to remote roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists remote platform engineering lead openings from across the U.S. in one place, so you can find roles that match your stack and seniority and apply directly. Remote roles at known companies close fast, so checking regularly and applying early matters.
Prove async leadership in your application
Remote platform engineering lead hiring managers read cover letters and written screeners as a direct test of async communication. Write clearly, make decisions explicit, and show you can move a distributed team forward through documentation and written guidance rather than meetings.
Build a public infrastructure portfolio
Remote employers can't see you work, so your GitHub activity, public Terraform modules, and documented architecture decisions do the selling. Maintain a clear README on each project that explains the problem, your approach, and the outcome a platform team would care about.
Prepare for remote-specific interview stages
Many remote platform engineering lead interviews include an async take-home design exercise or a written system design document in place of a live whiteboard session. Practice writing architecture decision records and designing internal developer platform structures in plain prose before your first technical round.
Target remote-first companies from the start
Remote-first SaaS companies and cloud-native startups build their engineering culture around distributed work from day one, which means their onboarding, tooling, and team rituals actually support remote platform leads. Prioritize those employers over companies where remote is a recent accommodation rather than a structural choice.
Remote Platform Engineering Lead Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a remote platform engineering lead job?
Remote platform engineering lead roles go to candidates who can demonstrate both deep platform expertise and the self-direction that distributed teams depend on. Hiring managers screen for strong async written communication, clear documentation habits, and hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines. Candidates who can show they've led infrastructure decisions independently, without daily in-person oversight, move to the front of the queue.
Which companies hire remote platform engineering leads?
Remote platform engineering lead roles are posted by Sangoma, SentiLink, and Headspace and others right now, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. The bulk of these openings come from remote-first SaaS companies, cloud-native fintech firms, and developer tooling startups that run fully distributed engineering organizations.
Can you get a remote platform engineering lead job with no experience?
Yes, but remote platform engineering lead roles at the entry level are uncommon, because distributed teams expect you to operate with minimal hand-holding from day one. Your best path is contributing to open-source infrastructure projects, building a public portfolio of Terraform modules or Kubernetes configurations, and targeting smaller remote-first startups where one person owns the entire platform function early.
Do you need a degree for remote platform engineering lead jobs?
Not always. Remote employers hiring platform engineering leads weigh demonstrable platform work, cloud certifications, and leadership evidence far more heavily than a degree. A strong GitHub history, professional certifications in AWS, GCP, or Azure, and a record of shipping reliable internal developer platforms consistently outweigh the absence of a formal computer science credential.
Which industries hire the most remote platform engineering leads?
Remote platform engineering lead roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Banking & Financial Services, and Sports & Recreation, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Those sectors hire platform engineering leads remotely because their engineering organizations are already distributed and depend on internal developer platforms to keep autonomous teams shipping reliably.
