What you will do
Thermal limits are the hidden bottleneck holding back the world’s most advanced technologies—AI infrastructure, semiconductor equipment, power electronics, and mission-critical defense systems. At Johnson Controls, we don’t work around those limits—we eliminate them.
Powered by our breakthrough Stack Forging™ process, we engineer high-performance thermal components and integrated cooling loop solutions designed for direct deployment into AI, HPC, and other demanding environments. The result: a best-in-class thermal management platform built for the systems that push performance to the edge—and beyond.
Join the movement as a Builder on the Stack Forging Thermal Solutions team at Johnson Controls, as a Thermal Simulation Engineer located in Burlington, MA. In this role, you won’t just analyze performance—you’ll help unlock it. Using a blend of first-principles calculations and advanced computational tools, you’ll predict and elevate the performance of JCI’s industry-leading thermal management technologies.
Working side-by-side with Solutions Engineers and Thermal Design Engineers, you’ll tackle complex challenges and optimize designs to meet some of the most demanding customer requirements in the industry. You’ll also play a key role in strengthening and evolving our simulation best practices, while learning from and collaborating with a team of top-tier simulation experts. You bring precision, curiosity, and a drive to get it right. You thrive on turning new and complex designs into accurate, actionable insights. With experience in coupled thermo-fluid simulations, you know how to translate detailed analysis into clear, impactful results for engineering teams. Comfortable navigating across projects, technologies, and functions, you’re at your best when collaborating in a fast-moving, cross-functional environment.
This position requires an onsite presence 4 days a week, with an option to work remotely 1 day a week. Candidates must be commuting distance to the facility, or able to relocate. Only US citizens and/or Permanent Residents of the US will be considered, as sponsorship is not available for this position.
How you will do it
Do hand calculations, select appropriate correlation coefficients, and build simple scaling models
Perform coupled thermo-fluid simulations using CFD software to predict pressure drop and thermal performance
Provide guidance and input on customer development projects
Develop and improve best practices around simulation
What you will need
Required
Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or other relevant field
3+ years of industry experience
Experience with CFD simulation software
Experience in thermal-fluid simulation and analysis, including but not limited to comfort with selecting turbulence closures, running mesh refinement studies, estimating model error, and extracting dimensionless correlation coefficients from simulations
Preferred
Experience with Siemens SimCenter
Experience with a wide range of reference literature on calculating thermal and fluid behavior of components
Ability to deliver results in a quickly evolving environment, delivering estimates for thermal performance of a design within a few days to accelerate customer-facing projects
Familiarity with design engineering work, specifically, an understanding of what an engineering design process looks like and how their work informs that process
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $90,000 - $130,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) This position includes a competitive benefits package. The posted salary range reflects the target compensation for this role. However, we recognize that exceptional candidates may bring unique skills and experiences that exceed the typical profile. If you believe your background warrants consideration beyond the stated range, we encourage you to apply. To support an efficient and fair hiring process, we may use technology assisted tools, including artificial intelligence (AI), to help identify and evaluate candidates. All hiring decisions are ultimately made by human reviewers. For details, please visit the About Us tab on the Johnson Controls Careers site at https://jobs.johnsoncontrols.com/about-us

Tips for Your Remote Senior Simulation Engineer Job Search
Tailor your resume to solver tools
Hiring managers scan for the specific simulation solvers you know, whether ANSYS, Abaqus, MATLAB, or Simulink. List the version or module where relevant and tie each tool to a project outcome, not just a task.
Quantify model validation results
Vague claims about simulation accuracy get skipped. Replace phrases like 'improved model fidelity' with specifics about error reduction, correlation to test data, or how your results influenced a design decision upstream.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists senior simulation engineer openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Target postings by physics domain
Structural, thermal, fluid, and controls simulation are distinct specializations. Filter openings by the physics domain you know deepest so you're not competing against candidates with unrelated solver expertise in the same application pool.
Prepare a technical portfolio before interviews
Many senior simulation engineer interviews include a case study or a live review of past models. Have two or three documented examples ready that show your mesh strategy, boundary condition choices, and how results were validated against physical tests.
Negotiate scope before accepting an offer
Ask specifically about hardware access, HPC cluster allocation, and whether the role includes experimental correlation work. Senior simulation engineers often find that day-to-day scope differs significantly from the job description once they start.
Remote Senior Simulation Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a remote senior simulation engineer job?
Target companies that already run distributed teams, since they hire remotely by default and know how to onboard someone they never meet in person. Remote senior simulation engineer employers screen hard for self-direction and clear written communication on top of the core skills, so show evidence you can own work without someone over your shoulder. Apply to the openings above that match your experience.
Which companies hire remote senior simulation engineers?
Employers currently hiring remote senior simulation engineers include Johnson Controls, Cintal, and TE Connectivity, per current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Remote-first firms and large companies running distributed teams post the most remote senior simulation engineer roles.
Can you get a remote senior simulation engineer job with no experience?
Yes, but it is harder than an on-site role, because remote work expects you to operate independently from the start. Entry-level remote senior simulation engineer openings do exist, especially at remote-first companies, and a portfolio of real work helps more than a long resume. Applying broadly to the roles that fit improves your odds.
Do you need a degree for remote senior simulation engineer jobs?
Not always. Many employers hire remote senior simulation engineers on demonstrated skills and prior work rather than a specific degree, though some larger companies still prefer one. Showing relevant results matters more than a credential for most remote senior simulation engineer roles.
Which industries hire the most remote senior simulation engineers?
The sectors hiring the most remote senior simulation engineers are Manufacturing, Electronics & Hardware, and Automotive, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. These sectors run distributed teams and hire senior simulation engineers remotely most consistently.
