How do I get a research associate job in Chicago?
Target the clusters where Chicago hiring is densest: academic medical centers in the Illinois Medical District and Hyde Park, biotech and clinical research organizations along the North Side, and market research and financial analytics firms in the Loop and Fulton Market. Candidates with hands-on lab experience, proficiency in statistical software like R or SPSS, or a background in clinical trial coordination stand out most in this market. Networking through local professional chapters and university career offices also accelerates hiring.
Which companies hire research associates in Chicago?

The employer base ranges from large academic medical systems and global market research firms to specialized biotech startups and financial services companies headquartered in the Loop.
Are there remote research associate jobs in Chicago?
Yes, though availability depends heavily on the type of work: desk-based and analytical research roles are the most remote-friendly, while lab-based and clinical positions require on-site presence. About 37% of research associate openings tied to Chicago are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with most of those concentrated in market research, social science research, and financial analysis roles.
How can I get a research associate job in Chicago with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Chicago is a research coordinator or junior research assistant role at one of the city's academic medical centers or university-affiliated research institutes, which regularly hire candidates with a relevant bachelor's degree and minimal prior experience. Contract research organizations in the metro area also bring on entry-level associates for clinical trial support. Volunteering on faculty research projects at Chicago-area universities and completing relevant coursework in data analysis or research methods strengthens an application significantly.
