Research Director Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a research director job in New York?
The strongest candidates in New York combine deep subject-matter expertise with experience managing cross-functional teams inside large, complex organizations. Financial services firms in Midtown, life sciences companies along the East Side medical corridor, and major media and consulting groups near Hudson Yards hire most actively. Tailoring your application to sector-specific research methods and demonstrating familiarity with New York's fast-paced, high-output environment gives a clear edge over generalist applicants.
Which companies hire research directors in New York?
Employers hiring research directors in New York right now include DoorDash, Amazon, and Google, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's mix of global financial institutions, academic medical centers, major media companies, and management consulting firms makes it one of the densest markets in the country for this role.
Are there remote research director jobs in New York?
Yes, though availability depends heavily on the sector. Research director roles in financial services, media strategy, and market research tend to allow more remote flexibility than those tied to clinical, laboratory, or in-person fieldwork settings. About 44% of research director openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with consulting and tech-adjacent roles accounting for the largest share of fully remote positions.
How can I get a research director job in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving laterally from a senior research manager or associate director role within a New York organization that promotes from within. Academic medical centers affiliated with institutions like NYU Langone or Memorial Sloan Kettering, as well as mid-size financial data firms in Midtown, frequently hire candidates at the senior-manager level and advance them into director roles within two to three years. Building a portfolio of published or client-facing research specific to your target sector accelerates that timeline significantly.
Which industries hire the most research directors in New York?
The sectors hiring the most research directors in New York are Technology & Software, Consulting & Professional Services, and Investment & Asset Management, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's position as a global hub for finance, healthcare, and media means demand for research leadership is driven by organizations that depend on proprietary data and original analysis to maintain competitive advantage.
